OK now that I have established that I will be purchasing either the
Panasonic PT-AE500 or the Sanyo LP-Z2 from PriceJapan I would like to know
if anyone here has bought one of these from them and how was the experience.

I would also like to know if both/either of these projectors have English
menus/labels etc or will everything be in Japanese.

Thanks again

I can't say i've bought either... yet, although i'm planning on it..... From
what i've read the Panny has japanese only menus. This is a little unclear
though as when pricejapan released it they stated it was 120volt only with
japanese OSD.... On their website now they say it is 120-240v and they don't
mention the language thing. The change is relatively recent and i can't find
anybody who's bought one recently to find out for sure. The Sanyo has always
had english menus and is 120-240v, so you shouldn't have any problems with
that one. Actually the menu thing is what sold me on the sanyo but now if
the panny is 240v and in english i'm not so sure what to buy again....
arggghhh.... btw if you haven't seen it yet projectorcentral.com have a
shootout between the two.

I've seen posts on AVS from AE500 buyers talking about a translated manual
that would help understand the menus.

I think there is an English manual you can download for either.

www.htcentral.net has a lot of info on both of these machines. its an aussie
site.

Hi all,
I am also looking to buy the Sanyo Z2. I am on the verge of buying my first home theatre package and the Sanyo Z2 from pricejapan.com looks the go.

If anyone does buy this or the Panasonic, can you please let me know how it goes. I am not so keen on the pricejapan.com direct debit process, so i am treading carefully.
Looking to buy in the next couple of months while the aussie dollar is high.

Please let me know via email at:
sidebott@bigpond.net.au

Thanks

I received Z2 from PriceJapan last week. Ordered on Thursday night,
arrived Monday (I live in eastern U.S.). I was reluctant to order
from Japan, but I really wanted the projector for Christmas.

So far, the experience is very good. I switched the on-screen menu to
English (the Panasonic menu is only Japanese, according to PriceJapan)
and printed the English manual from the internet. Projector markings
and remote are in English. I paid $36 to PriceJapan for a cable that
converts the Japanese D4 input to component video (otherwise, there is
no way to use component video). I also bought a VGA --> DVI cable so
I could use the projector with my computer, which has no DVI output.

The only kicker is the warranty. Just one year, and only in Japan.
You have to pay shipping both ways to Japan. I have only watched one
movie and have not had any time to fool with the settings. So far, I
am very happy with it.

No problem - assuming I can still afford a net connection.

I reckon it'll be about $49-$69 in fees plus gst (on C.I.F.+ Margin price)
give or take $15

He'll still have enough left over to take the whole family to Surfers for
the week end!

If shipping was $200 and the rest $2120:

2120 (product)
5% customs bastards tax - 106
200 (ship)
------
2426 (amount to calc GST on)
242.6 (govt bastards tax)
------
2668.60 total cost

($348.60 fees due)

A guy I know bought the Panasonic PT-AE500 about 2 months ago through PriceJapan. It cost him about $2500 landed here including the Australian GST that was charged.

The Menus are all in Japanese, but he downloaded the english manual. The labeling on the Unit is in english. Make sure you specify that you want the multivoltage with 240V, not just the 100V Japanese. The service was quick and efficient, and he had no dramas at all.
