See page 33
Thanks for pointing that out -buts- , I had completely forgotten about it.
I have added it to the website under 'Other Tips etc' for future reference.

Has anyone tried to switch a dual audio encoded AVI?
I have track 1 encoded with MP3 and track 2 as AC3 Dolby digital for when I get surround.
There are a couple of windows players that can do this but can the XMS-888 do it?

Thanks

Yep. I have a DIVX of a favourite movie (Nights Of Cabiria) and it switches between the original Italian and dubbed English audio tracks fine on the XMS-888.

Also, it said: "There is also an interesting thing regarding sound and video synchronization, in some files (which could be played back on PC without any problem) there is synchronization loss. But, if you press on twice System menu on remote control, then the synchronization will be restored.
"
Has anyone tried this on the 888? I have an mvcd file which has major sync issues when you use << >> seek buttons. I might give this a try when I get home.
ok, tried this last night, no luck. Wasn't sure what was meant by "system menu" button, so I tried pushing both "menu" button and "setup" button twice, but it wasn't able to restore sync. Also tried woot's suggestion:
[QUOTE=for the people who r wondering why some of there SVCDs and VCDs r out of sync of video and audio

u should turn off PBC, if anyone here hasnt said this before ] but no luck there either. I'm gonna put it down to just a very bad encode / VBR

btw andw, while you're adding things to the "other tips, etc." section on your excellent website, perhaps you could put w00t's comment above in too, if other people have found it successful? (page 36, if that helps)

I have some JFK assasination docos that have trouble playing on the XMS-888. The files are approx 800Mb mpeg files pulled out of the \mpeg2 folder of some SVCD disks.

I've attached the results of Gspot 2.21.

The effect you get is moving blocks of images breaking up with squeak sounds, similar to what you get with poor digital tv or satellite reception.

We're guessing the problem is the player having trouble reading the data off the disk.

Has anybody tried replacing the drive unit in their player?

I assume it's just a standard IDE DVD ROM drive like PCs use and if so replacing the drive with a higher quality unit might not be a bad idea

Not standard IDE, as the Vibratto II chip has all the DVD controller stuff built in... see the photo http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~wweb/xms888/insideright.JPG
That's about the best one I have for showing some of the DVD drive and Mainboard with connectors. (No logic board on the drive itself)
p.s. who really killed JFK, how many were there???

Hmm, well so much for that idea :)

re: JFK Can't answer that because I haven't been able to watch the docos yet, I refuse to watch anything longer than 5 minutes on my PC ;)

What's with the lack of info from g-spot? I've never viewed an mpeg2 file in gspot, is that what they usually show up like? Have you tried playing the original scvd?

I received a pre release today which has been undergoing evaluation, but it looks as though there are still issues that the factory will need to sort before 1.2 is released. A part of the problem in getting this resolved is that the factory has had trouble replicating some of the reported problems, if anyone can help by supplying samples of files or supplying me a link to where I can find files I can get these to the factory that will help to speed the release of 1.2 up.

If anyone can help with this please contact me off list to discuss.

Thanks

Tried it last night and yes the original SVCD (on a CDR) plays fine.

So looks like dragging just the MPEG files from each SVCD disk from the \mpeg2 folders onto a DVD disk doesnt work properly on the XMS. Maybe it needs the information in those other folders?

But a mates Digitrex DVD player has no problem with the loose MPEG files together on a DVD disk so go figure.

What files do you need ? There were too many discussed problems to remember. The main issue (I think) is the audio compatibility. If you need small file samples with non-standard bitrates which play badly, no problems.

Any files that cause you issues would be appreciated, particularly audio related or files that do not zoom correctly. I also recall mention of a 600mb download from a german forum that had a heap of different sample files, I did have a look at the forum that was mentioned but couldn't find the file, if anyone can provide a link to this file would be good.
