Thanks guys. I will be going to Strathfield on Saturday and will take a cd that contains .m2v files. If I buy the player (is there any new reason why i shouldn't???) i will report back my results.

Keep in mind that the players in store will not have the newer firmware which improves playback compatability.

I'm aware of that. I may even get them to do the update. Thankyou

Any new major points/reasons between page 14 and page 56 of this thread that I should be aware of?

Guys

My apologies if this has been covered before but i have some .m2v music video's on CD. Can the XMS play .m2V files?

Considering that .m2v files are just mpeg2 files with video (and possibly audio), I don't see why not :D

However, the player doesn't recognise the .m2v extension. You just have to rename your .m2v files to .mpg and they should work fine. Make sure you do this when you bring in your cd to strathfield, otherwise your files will not show up in the player's file browser. I've had no problems playing my mpeg2 files this way.

The store won't have the current firmware as it is still not finalised, they won't have it until there is a finalised version. Once it is finalised new shipments of this player will have the firmware by default anyway. If you want a summary of the relevant info in the thread check out andw's site at www.xms888.tk

Ok, due to the size of the thread, the fact that there is now a dedicated 'DivX' forum, and the fact that apart from firmware update still waiting, there are no current questions outstanding (I think), this thread will close here.
If you want to read it in full (and you have many hours to spend), go for it.
For a quick look at most of the main points covered, go to www.xms888.tk
Otherwise, as we have a dedicated DivX section now, post questions, tips etc under their own headings.
e.g. XMS-888 - my audio doesn't play or such.
Hopefully we will see a new firmware very soon, and there will certainly be a thread for any bugs people find in it.
