DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading digital multichannel television service
provider, announced today the launch of a new high-definition (HD) bundled
equipment offer for DIRECTV customers, at 600 Best Buy retail locations
across the country. This HD bundle incorporates an RCA 52-inch HD TV, model
(D52W15), a DIRECTV® HD receiver and professional installation for $1,499.
The promotion will begin Nov. 30, 2003 and run through Feb. 28, 2004.
"With its crystal-clear picture, the demand for HD is growing rapidly and
DIRECTV continues to stay at the forefront by working with our
manufacturers, retailers and programming partners to deliver the best in
high-definition equipment and programming," said Steve Cox, executive vice
president, Sales Distribution and Customer Acquisition, DIRECTV, Inc.
"Trusted consumer electronics companies like Best Buy are now making it even
easier and more affordable for our customers to experience DIRECTV® service
in HD."
DIRECTV recently launched a national HD Package that includes ESPN HD,
Discovery HD TheaterTM, HDNet, HDNet Movies and HD Special Event programming
for $10.99 per month. In addition to this package, DIRECTV offers
High-Definition PPV, HBO® HDTV and SHO HD® (HBO® HDTV and SHO HD® are
included with their respective premium programming subscriptions.)
"We are excited to bring together a consumer-driven HD package that takes
the guesswork out of HD," said Bill Cody, vice president of Home Theater for
Best Buy. "Our challenge has been to marry a quality TV experience with a
great HD programming experience and we think we've found that with DIRECTV."
To access HDTV channels, customers must have a DIRECTV HD set-top receiver,
an HD television set and a single 18x20-inch multi-satellite dish with three
LNBs.
