Yeah, good point Houndsy.

Just watched the first episode of Solitary, a new reality show on Fox 8.
9 people are locked in 9 separate small rooms and don't have contact with anyone other than an annoying chipmunk like voice that controls everything. They are all subjected to all kinds of tasks that cause sleep deprivation, frustration etc and they have the opportunity to push a quit button at any time and leave the show.
The last person left wins $50,000.

It's not exactly quality television but it is interesting seeing how they cope with everything that is thrown at them and the first person to quit was a big surprise as they were one of the top 4 at that point in the game and seemed to be doing quite well.

Saw about half of Sin City the other night. While I loved the books, and the movie went to enormous lengths to be faithful to them (with Frank Miller as co-director I guess it was as faithful as you can get), I found it far more two dimensional as a film. Ironic I guess and certainly disappointing. Gave up on it halfway through.

Hoping 300 hasn't suffered the same fate - absolutely love the "graphic novel", and hoping they haven't gone to enormous lengths to give it the same feel as the two-dimensional medium. From what Watchie was saying, sounds like they extended the "wife" character so they could give some hottie some screen time and maybe pad out the script - Leonides' wife only had a walk-on role in the book. I agree it would fragment the narrative.

Still on comics - watched the film of Ghost Rider the other night. Some nice effects but this was a shallow, woeful movie by my reckoning. By the numbers type action with some barely explicable supernatural mythology thrown in. It actually worked less for me as a comic book film than a motorcycle movie, a kind of fantasized tip of the hat to the bikie movies of the 60s and 70s, down to the casting of Easy Rider's Captain America Peter Fonda as the Devil figure. Even on that note it didn't seem as knowing or referential as it should have been, instead hoping to seize more on current trends in comicbook films (dark horror fantasy). Pity - it really had the chance to develop the motorcycle movie beyond a gimmick and moments do work well.

Just watched Saw III. Since the first movie, I've looked forward to the next one to see what creative ways of inflicting pain on the victims they can think of and they haven't disappointed. They had me squirming in my seat and cringing at every painful moment. :D
This one was the weaker of the 3, but still enjoyable til the very end.

Thanks for letting me know siliegrrl, I'll have to wait until the price drops down then. I hope it's out for hire because I haven't seen it yet and if I like it enough I'll buy it now, but it'll probably take a while to hire I would think.

I had a night of watching chick flicks last night. :boonie: Notting Hill, Picture Perfect and The Wedding Date again. :D

That's a shame, was looking forward to watching that.

I saw it the other day with my friend and her 11 year old - even the other kids were squirming about and getting bored with it.First time I've ever been glad for a movie to end. Have to agree with Hounds........but will give it 1/10.
Hope you enjoy it. :D

Last night I checked out a new show that started in the USA on Sunday night called Drive (http://www.tv.com/drive/show/58334/summary.html). I saw it advertised on tv.com a while ago and I was interested in it because it stars Nathan Fillion from Firefly.

Drive follows the lives of a group of Americans racing each other in a sinister and possibly mortal cross-country race. Each has a special reason to compete - and each must win. Among the racers are two brothers in a stolen, pimped-out Cadillac that carries secrets of its own, a man trying to find his missing wife, a scientist and his teenage daughter, and others. No one knows who they're racing or where the finish line is, so anything is possible.

Drive is produced by 20th Century FOX Television and distributed by the FOX Television Network. The series has been given a 13 episode initial order.

I watched the 2 episodes that were shown on Sunday night, and while I can't say it's the best tv show I've ever seen, I still really enjoyed it. Episode 3 aired last night in America and I think from now on it will be on every Monday night.

Just watched Syriana. Fantastic film, once again George Clooney shows what a bloody good actor he is. Loved the plot, and story, and the general themes in the film.
