So a thread for what you just watched and what you thought of it

Myself, I just watched Donnie Darko, followed by the commentary with Richard Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaall about this film.

The film gets better and better with each viewing, and this commentary is a must for fans of the film. I understand the film alot better after listening to the commentary - but there is so much more to interpret, that many many viewings are required

I watched Office Space last night- man I love this film, pity it isn't available in R4.... yet(supposedly going to be released in Feb 2004).

The guy who plays Milton(Stephen Root) in this is very funny. One of the most underrated films of the last few years.

Just finished watching 12 Monkeys. A classic film, by Terry Gilliam, with Madeleine Stowe in a stella performance.

A bit along the lines of Donnie Darko really with the time travel, and what is real - what isn't aspect, but this film is more from A - B, than Darko is.

Why wont they release it on DVD?

Ok another film to add to the discussion- just caught on World Movies tonight for the first time Y tu Mamá También - what an amazing film!! This is the second Mexican film I have been blown away by(the other is the superb Amores Perros ).

If you liked both of those movies then i can highly recommend that you seek out "talk to her",it's out for rental and it also goes cheap in r3 complete with very good dts soundtrack :)

Y Tu Mama Tambien, certainly was a bloody fine film.

Last watched was Spetters. Wouldn't get a release if done in the US on todays standards, yet 1980 Holland, we get such a film... Brilliant film with more than one event shocking the shit out of you

Is that the one with Micheal Biehn climbing the mountian? If so I found that incredibly boring.

Finally watched a r1 Charles Bronson movie from the 1970s - Mr. Majestyk (made around the same time as he did Death Wish).

Anyway, I recently borrowed a book by the director, Richard Fleischer, at my local library in which he recounts his experiences and impressions of the actors he has worked with in almost 50 films. He had an amusing story about Bronson during the making of Mr. Majestyk. The production was delayed one day waiting for some equipment (vehicles) to arrive and the American crew were apparently lazing around waiting with little to do. The director was at one end of the large gathering and Bronson at the other. Bronson then shouts to the director (for all to hear) that what the film really needed was a European crew. The American crew did not take kindly to this insinuation at all and later threatened to resign en masse. They eventually didn't but gave Bronson the cold shoulder through the remainder of the shoot. Heh heh heh.

About the film itself, well: Charles Bronson as a melon farmer. Heh heh heh. Had an original Elmore Leonard script though and was entertaining - I guess an attempt to make Bronson into a hero for the (barely) working poor.

Last nights viewing entertainment was Y Tu Mama Tambien.

Even better this time around. Wonderfully drawn characters, with very realistic reactions from the situations confronted

How the friendship deteriorated at the end, probably more sad, than the death of Luisa. But did the friendship end from screwing the others girl (and mother).?.. I think not, more the situation of the 2 getting with each other... Was alcohol enduced but the experience was something they couldn't and didn't want to deal with - so the approach is the one they took. Sad - but definitely human

Storytelling :- watched this last night, this is from the same guy who did Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse (Todd Solondz) .


It is split into 2 1/2's (Fiction and Non- Fiction), with both stories un-related to each other. Fiction has Selma Blair and Leo Fitzpatrick in it, whilst Non-Fiction includes Paul Giamatti(pig vomit from the very funny Howard Stern film Private Parts and also this years American Splendor), John Goodman and Franke Potente(Run Lola Run, The Princess and the Warrior). The 1st part of Storytelling is quite confrentational(a rather explict sex scene), the 2nd(and one which I prefered of the 2 stories) has a rather strange ending.


If you haven't seen this and are a Solondz fan( not a big fan of Happiness myself- a bit too depresing for me, but still a good film), then Storytelling is worth a look.

Yeah I have seen Storytelling and preferred the first part of the film...

But the little kid in the 2nd part was a classic!! The standout of the film.

Just watched Temple of Doom from the indy box set. great movie. still stands the test of time.
