I've been downloading some of the newest trailers to have a peek at, how do I save them though so I can watch them again after I've closed the window.

In most cases when you get them from the official sites you cannot save them using QuickTime or MediaPlayer.

But of course there's always the unofficial sites... ;)

With a bit of digging you can save any of the trailers at Apple.com - there are only a few sites that make it tough for you by using streaming RTSP servers and the like.
Give me the links to any you want to save and I'll post a direct link. In the meantime I'll try to write up a simple step by step guide to it.

Ok - it's not the easiest thing in the world, but I've made it as easy as I can.
Ozeagle's Guide to downloading movies from Apple.com (and other sites with similar setups)
1) First you need to open the page in which the .mov is embedded. Just open up the page as you normally would, but hit ESC so you don't end up downloading the whole trailer.
2) View the source of this page. (View menu, Source).
3) In the source, run a search for ".mov". There will usually be a number of hits here. It is up to you to find the right one - on Apple.com it is pretty easy, just look for the one with the really long series of numbers/letters. And not one which is inside a \images\ directory.
4) Copy the entire URL for this .mov file. It will be extremely long.
5) Download this URL. This will not be the movie, only a small file that links to the movie. There are a few easy ways to download this file.
5a) If you have a download manager installed, just paste the URL into the download manager and let it do the work. Easy.
5b) No download manager? Here's a good trick. Come to the forums, and send a private message. Just paste the URL into the PM window, and preview your message. In the preview message section, right click and Save the file link. Leave this PM open for step 8.
5c) Third option is to make yourself a tiny HTML page that has the link on it. But the forum cheat method is quicker.
6) Once you have this file, open it in a text editor (Notepad/Wordpad/Textpad etc)
7) Search this file for ".mov". You'll find a few filenames, but only one will look like the name of a trailer. It will likely be there twice. Copy this filename.
8) Paste this filename into the URL you copied earlier, replacing the old filename (but none of the rest of the URL).
9) Repeat whatever method you used for Part (5) to download this new combined URL, which will be the full trailer
10) Enjoy your trailer!

or just get Quicktime Pro and right click the movie and select "save as" :)

That's the easiest way, but even that doesn't work sometimes - the producer of the .mov can choose to disallow saving from QT Pro. So I prefer not to take the risk :)
This method also allows you to use a download manager for the files, which can be really useful on the big ones.

Ok, a sample walkthrough of the method I posted here. I've randomly chosen "The Cat in the Hat" from Apple's site.
1) From Apple, we get to this page (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/thecatinthehat/large.html) (for the large version).
2) View Source
3) In the source, we first find:
http://a224.g.akamai.net/7/224/51/71140b45d0410c/www.apple.com/trailers/universal/thecatinthehat/images/large_05.mov
This link isn't long enough, and it says "images" - it's not a trailer. Moving to the next one...
http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/9f75a4a6146145/1a1a1aaa2198c627970773d80669d84574a8d80d3cb12453c0 2589f25382f668c9329e0375e8178cfa63d93eb02384f01f93 fb60c32498016fe34bb01879ed/thecatinthehat-tlr_480.mov
This is more like it.
4) I copy that URL.
5) I paste it somewhere (in this case into this thread)
6) I right click on it, and save it to my Desktop
7) Opening it up in Notepad, I find a new filename (twice). In this case, thecatinthehat-tlr_m480.mov
8) Adding that into the old link, I end up with:
http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/9f75a4a6146145/1a1a1aaa2198c627970773d80669d84574a8d80d3cb12453c0 2589f25382f668c9329e0375e8178cfa63d93eb02384f01f93 fb60c32498016fe34bb01879ed/thecatinthehat-tlr_m480.mov
9) I download it
10) I watch it :)

hehehe - well I'm more than happy to do that too. In fact I offered in my first post in this thread. Just put in the movie you're after and I'll see what I can do (preferably with a link to the page, save me some time :) )

Sorry, was off trying to win stuff for Freqs. Chisel tickets and a Rodney Rude pack today, not a bad day's work (sorry Houndsy :( )
Anyway, I can't actually give you a link to this one because of the censorship rules - you'll have to change the end of the URL yourself. If anyone needs help with how to download this (since you can't right click->save), let me know and I'll post some ideas here.

Edit: I've stuck up a quick webpage with uncensored links to this file - just a links page that can be found here (http://www.iinet.net.au/~shiby/).
