It's a love story waiting to erupt.
They Couldn't be more different. Yet when construction worker, Franklin Swift, meets aspiring Singer/Songwriter, Zora Banks, the atmosphere is electric, the attraction undeniable. They begin a passionate affair and move in together. But as intense and loving as it is, the relationship is equally fragile and tumultuous. As they endure financial, social and personal difficulties, their love is tested to the point of breaking. Soon they discover that if they are to stay together, it's going to take more than love alone.
From the best-selling novel written by Terry McMillan ("Waiting To Exhale", "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"), with knock-out performances from Wesley Snipes (Art Of War) and Sanaah Lathan (Love and Basketball) DISAPPEARING ACTS is a love story for the new millennium: sexy, sublime, vulnerable and real.
"... A knockout performance from Wesley Snipes" - Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide.

AUDIO/VISUAL

Although the back cover says that there's a Dolby 2.0 track as well as the DD 5.1, there is in fact only a Dolby 2.0 track available on the review copy of the DVD.
I'm still verifying with Roadshow Entertainment as to what the retail version will have and I'll edit this review accordingly once the information comes to hand.
The overall quality of this track was very good for Dolby 2.0 audio.
Speech is clear, easy to understand and in sync.
The audio is mixed well in the dominant front sound stage and does suit the picture well and there's not much call for the surrounds.
Disappearing Acts features a main character that is a singer/song writer, so the movie obviously has some good musical content. This music comes across very well and actually usses a bit of bass here and there.

Disappearing Acts has an aspect of 1.85:1 widescreen and is 16:9 enhanced.
I know I've said it before, but Roadshow have done it again with another beautiful transfer.
This is a very clear and sharp picture that just looks great! It's a very clean image with hardly any sign at all of blemishes or imperfections.
The colours are superb with realistic flesh tones, solid blacks and bright and sharp colours all the way through the movie.

Trailer - Nice looking trailer that is in 2.0 and is shown in widescreen.

OVERALL

I'll be honest and say that I'd never heard of this movie prior to the review DVD arriving and seeing Wesley Snipes promoted as the male lead to this HBO love story didn't get me excited either.
Well, I'll admit it right here in writing that this is actually a pretty good movie and I enjoyed it and I'm sure others will they sit there and give it time. You can't help but being drawn in and absorbed into the story as it plays out before you.
Snipes and Lathan put in very solid performances and raise the standard of this lower budget but well written movie a notch or two.
The DVD itself is very light on extra features, with only a Trailer being offered but the quality of the audio and especially the visuals are very good indeed.
I think that renting is the best option for most people here, but I'm sure that there will be others such as myself who will be pleasantly surprised by Disappearing Acts and I'm sure they would like to add this to their collection.
