Hi all,
I'm disappointed with vicroads. They've embraced the new PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register) and now I can't see the
writeoff status without paying a fee. I consider the writeoff status a safety issue and believe it should be available to view
without having to pay. Fine with paying to find out if the vehicle is encumbered but I wouldn't even get that far if the
vehicle has a writeoff status even if it was a repairable writeoff. So now when I've got several cars to look at I need to pay
for each one just to then discount them as a contender.

Very disappointed.

How much is the fee?
Passing on costs to the users of a service is not unreasonable provided
the fee is also reasonable.

OK $3.70 is cheaper than other revchecks type fees, but the point is writeoff status was FREE with vicroads but now is not. And
if there are 10 porsche boxsters to look at (and in the 1997-2000 range there are hundreds) then that's $37 to pay out when in
the past it cost nothing. Sort of forces you to a dealer when you want to browse and they have to tell you the history for
free.

Nothing much is free these days, if I wanted to find a reason to be
annoyed with VicRoads it would be the recent rise in rego TAC fees
although Victorians can't really complain when our car rego is cheap
compared to many other States.
The rego/CTP for my Hilux went up by about $37.00 this year but at
$567.00 its still relatively cheap.

You would worry about $37 compared to the price of an older Porsche? Do you have any
Scots blood in you?
