I noticed last Friday that Today Tonight in Adelaide was letterboxed
14:9 on analog and realized that usually means 16:9 digital, so
checked and sure enough the studio stuff was in 16:9. Next day I
checked the news and that was, too. I guess they started around Jan. 1
(only three years after digital started!).

They seem to have quite a lot of stuff (e.g. from overseas) in what
looks like 14:9 on digital (i.e. wider than 4:3 like most other
channels) so I guess they zoom in on 4:3 material (or maybe stretch
it) so that it leaves narrower black vertical bars either side.
