I've been trying to locate a fault with a new abit kg7-raid motherboard and I've hit a dead end

symptoms:

winME graphics are all corrupted
winME will only boot in safe mode
winME will reset itself after a minute or so
winME in normal mode will reboot straight away
linux reports a kernel panice
openbsd reports a page fault error

I've tried taking everything out except for
geforce2 gfx card
cdrom
cpu
memory
300watt powersupply

but the problem still exists, how can I
isolate/locate the problem any further?

any advice would be great

erh, maybe there's something off with the system being overclocked too aggressively when you put in the motherboard ?

its an athlonXP 1700+, no overclocking has been done, its at the default settings for that CPU model.

Try updating your Bios.

I've made some progress... the following steps made my computer function in a stable manner

upgraded bios to 5e ( 5w was reported to have problems)
adjusted the DDR voltage to 2.52 from the default which was much higher
reduced the FSB from 133 to 100mhz

the 1.47ghz chip is now running at 1.1 ghz on a 100mhz fsb. while this isn't ideal its a step in the right direction.. from here I can only point the finger at my kingmax 512meg PC2400 DDR 300mhz ram (2x256 sticks) as it should work reliably at 133mhz

hopefully further testing will allow me to crank it up to its normal speed.
