Amazing!
This is the third ad I've seen for a Loewe in the last six months and every
one has had their picture tube replaced. Maybe they are not as good as
everyone says?
Or are you having trouble flogging it....:-)

No, he appears to be quite proficient at 'flogging it'
and Loewe are un-realible, I know 7 people with loewe, and 5 of them had to
get them repaired within 4 years, either EHT transformer or tube replaced. I
was the unlucky one who's warranty run out :(

I know a dozen people with LOEWE TV's. One has been cooked because
the person who installed it didn't read TFM about leaving a
ventilation gap. My guess is that that is fairly common.
My LOEWE has been going well for almost 10 years. The only problem
is a dodgy S-video socket on the front. Had it replaced but the
replacement part is just as bad.

Hey Dude,
I've still got my CT 1170 (I think I got it shortly before you did)
and it's still going fine.
WTF happened to your tube?
Cheers,

P.S. Are your manuals in English or Deutsche & Italiano like mine?

To be honest with you guys this tv served me well. I actually managed to get
them to replace the tube out of warranty by their own diagnosis that the
prob i was experirencing was being caused by either the tube or another
component. They chose to go tube first, but it ended up not being the tube,
so i got a new tube for nothing. They replaced the other part and all was
good. Apart for that ive had little issue with it. Only reason ive been
trying the sell is because i have a SD STB and have been lucky enough to
have a widescreen teev loaned to me from a family member who is currently
overseas. Prefer to watch all my content in widescreen rather than
letterbox. So ultimately i have no interest in going back to a 4:3 hence why
i am selling. I think what people are talking about here is not uncommon to
any other brand. Every brand has its fair share of issues.

The picture quality is fine - but I also had to have the tube replaced after
a few years. (I had a Calida) Recently its crapped out again, so I wont be
getting it fixed this time.
Yep that;s want I;ve got, calida, but the other set's that have broken down
were, ergo's, profil's, ct1170. I mean 100Hz is a great picture and at the
time there were no jap tv;s with 100Hz, so I had little choice. I am happy
with the pic quality, but reliability is another story. I even tried
emailing the guy who imports them into Australia, Alex Encel from Inter
Dynamics, but he doesn't want to reply :(.

Yes, I confess. I, too, bought a Loewe Cntur 66cm 4:3 in 1996. Got an extended warranty thrown. I had to cart it,san box, in the little hatch on the freeway for 70km. Just after the warranty ran out the TV started to play up. occassionally, the screen would "compress" horizontally. Then one day while it was on, the picture and the set shut off completely with a burnt smell lingering in the lounge. That was that. Sat in the basement till last week when the missus decided to clear it out in the quarterly hard rubbish collection. Suppose I could have had it repaired (must be the transformer, or so said the in-law) but really not worth it. So now I have the Palsonic 76WSHD (rrp $1999). I like it so far and so does the missus. Fantastic picture on 100Hz scanning. Not unlike the smearing effect I saw on the various Loewe 1-2 years ago. Now you can count me out of paying for poor "German Quality" which don't last and are overpriced. Try to get an equivalent German TV for under $2000.
Chaio.

I have owned two Loewe TVs
1st was a 4:3 Arcada that I passed down to my son and then "Upgraded" to a
16:9 Planus which I still have.
The Arcada has had the power supply replaced 4 times under warrantee. (Its
now out of warrantee for a year and seems to be ok.)
The Planus has had no problems

I've owned a Telefunken TV (German, not the more recent Chinese ones) for
just on 6 years, whichis very similar to the equivalent Loewes and Grundigs.
When I bought it, I had some reservations about its potential long-term
durability in a humid climate, but it's never missed a beat.
I thought I might eventually replace it with a Loewe, but after reading this
thread (and especially considering the relatively small number of Loewes
sold in Australia), no way!
Thanks for the info .....
