Hi
Someone in this group recently directed me to
http://www.remotecentral.com for info on
remote contols, it's a great site, but does anyone
know of any similar australian sites. Alot of remotes
to choose from, can anyone give me suggestions
as to what is good and what is not, preferably from
their personal experiences.
Thanks
Mark

If you don't mind touch screens, go for the Philips Pronto. I got one and it
works very well, however I have come to realise that I hate the 'touch
screen' idea. First touch screen equipment I have owned and never again.

The Pronto is a terrerific device and does everything I could
possibly want - except the screen navigation is a pain and it
lacks tactile buttons. I have reverted to using my programmable
Yammy remote for this reason.

I think there are plenty of us that don't like touch screens ;)
I've got a Home Theater Master MX-500 which I've found to be an
excellent remote (only had it for about two weeks). The only thing
that is perhaps missing is some way to load discrete codes directly.
(Can be done with either the IRClone addon, or with another remote
that can have these code loaded in, or with the MX-700...).
Read about it here:

Like everyone else in australia I purchsed mine from:

Hi I have the Philips Pronto 7000 (after having owned a 1000).
The color touch screen is absolutely brilliant.
I love the touch screen and wouldn't be without it.
While it has 17 programmable hard buttons I only use 8 of them - for volume
up/down, home page, TV Guide, and 4 menu options.

THe Philips Prontos are BRILLIANT. It depends on your budget. If you wanna
spend $500 the Pronto is so great.. unless you have something against touch
screen remotes.. which I personally don't but obviously some do.

I was lucky. Philips gave me a 7000 (plus the RF Extender) for being a beta
tester.
Current best prices on the internet for the 7000 seem to be around US$630.
