Has anyone any real world experience of what Customs fees (duty? GST?) get
charged when importing items from PriceJapan via DHL?

I wouldnt deal with anyone that charges a commission on Japanese sales tax.
I notice that they fail to mention how to claim the sales tax refund. for
private export since they do not have a permit to sell for the purpose of
export.

Then as a favour you still have to pay local GST on import.

Laughable.

10% GST, probably 5% duty, then customs handling fees ($50-$100), then
importers fees.

5% duty is quite rare in many instances of electronics.

I was hit with 5% on a Pronto remote control which surprised me as I thought
just about all consumer electronics was duty free.

I was charged 10% GST and a $50 fee by DHL on behalf of Customs. This was
on a Sony projector from PJ. And I don't begrudge them their comissions,
even if they are a little sly on any extra (like sales tax refunds). As
long as people are aware that PriceJapan "buy" the goods on your behalf and
then ship it to you. Technically you are not buying anything from them.

Cheers
