G'day Folks!

I'm about to embark on the purchase of my first projector after months
of research. I'm definately no expert, so excuse my Av naivity or any
blantant stupidity evident in my dilemna. Here is my question:

I can purchase the Sanyo PLV-Z2 for $3,410 Today in Sydney.

I can purchase the Infocus X1 for $1,820, but have to wait until mid
Feb.

So that equates to a difference of $1,590. Is the Sanyo Plv-Z2 worth
$1,590 more than the X1. If anyone out there has had experiences with
both, or have been presented with the same decision. I will be greatly
thankful for your comments.

Cheers in Advance!
MattyD.

I believe the X1 is favoured as a budget 800x600 projector, but if you can
get one from the USA they are $999 which equates to about $1300.

The Sanyo from memory is 1024x768 but the higher res is relevant really only
if you are to use it as a pc screen.

Someone will correct me if Im wrong, Im sure..enjoy!

Yes..I own a Z2. If you can afford the extra...it leaves the X1 for dead.

The X1 looked good when I auditioned it...but the rainbows made me feel
physically sick after about 20 minutes, with a headache that lasted for a
few hours (YMMV).

The Z2 is in a different league. Native widescreen and higher resolution
(WXGA 720p native)...there is NO comparison re: quality, but that comes at a
price.

The X1 is a great entry level projector if you dont get troubled by the
rainbows (and depending on what you watch now will likely delight), but the
Z2 is a whole different beast ;-))))

Screen door is negligible, vertical banding can be a problem for some (I see
it occasionally but never enough to annoy), colours are fabulous, blacks are
fine and shodw deatil is perfectly acceptable. You DO need a light
controlled room though...as you would for the X1 too. It is certainly
tremendous value for an LCD projector.

If it's tremendous value you're after then you really should audition the X1
to make sure that you're affected by rainbows. If you're not affected by
them then I believe that the extra dollars is hard to justify. Not that I'm
knocking anyone who has bought a Z2, they obviously have made their choice
on personal preference.

From my experience I read a lot about rainbows and was worried about them,
but I didn't tell anyone. No one has complained and I hardly see them
myself. I can live with it for the sake of $1,500.

Just make sure you check it out before you spend the cash, unless you're
pretty flush that is ;-)
