Following many problems performed 'fdisc'.
Then upgraded from win95 to win 98 (as boot floppy would not work!) and cannot get video/sound drivers to load up.
Got new drivers from internet (sis5598vga98 and 30W98ver20), but keep being asked for a disk I have not got (windows 95 sis5597/5598vga), so unable to load the new drivers!
Any help greatfully recieved!
Thanks
Exactly what sequence of steps did you follow to install the drivers? It sounds like you downloaded them and expected windows to just find them but it doesn't work that way. You must install them.
For the VGA drivers, there are three files to download.
597113-6.exe
597113-7.exe
597113-8.exe
Download them to the root directory on your hard drive, then execute each one of them to unpack it. Then execute SETUP.EXE and they will install.
The sound driver is a different matter because it is installed using an INF file during the device detection phase of windows boot. That means it can be a real hassle if the on-board sound was enabled in the BIOS before windows was installed.
Please outline exactly what you did and we'll help you get it going.

Steve:
Brad is 100% right. I've tried using the different posted drivers and the ones that work for me are the ones right from the SiS site that are the 3 files Brad mentions. They are of the size to fit on 3 floppy disks.
I've zipped these three files for Win 98 and placed them on the M571 site. I've also zipped the 3 files for Win 95 and placed them on the M571 site also under the link for Win 95.
Whether you get the drivers from M571 or direct form SiS, extract them in a temp directory, all 3 files, and run the setup and I think you will get what you want.
There are some files that don't have the three floppy disk images distrinctly, and I have not had good experiences with those files.
Besides the SiS ste, the url for the M571 site is:
home.directlink.net/~timmy/M571/M571.htm

Thanks, I have the 3 driver files Brad mentions on a CD (and in a temp file on my PC and the offending one!) as I downloaded them onto my PC. As I have them in a file then I guess I can just move them into the root directory?
I have to investigate the sound problem a little more, as it may just be turned off!
Thanks for the tips, I will look into them and let you know how it went!

Steve:
Put the 3 .exe files into a temporary directory (name it whatever you want; I like to use "blob") and then double click on each of them to get them to self extract.
After they are all extracted, click on the setup in that directory and it will lead you as to what you should do.

I just went throught this myself.
I highly recommend you install Windows 2000!
It will automatically install the video driver
for you. Then you can easily download
the sound driver from www.m571.com

Hate to be a "smart arse," but I'd recommend forget both the onboard VGA and "Soundpro" and install separate cards (disable Soundpro in the bios). I've never found either the onboard sound or VGA to be all that great and besides, you don't have to stuff about with multiple files every time you format.
