Try the AVS forum, it is a great US site for all things to do with home theatre. Should be easy to find on a search.
For an Aussie site try www.htcentral.net

Some of the sites are for Roger Ramjet and his crew of propeller heads. You
need to set a budget on the audio gear and do a budget for lighting controls
or electric curtains. I reckon some people get carried away with the whole
authentic "shitty" chair effect and the SS Enterprise control console. "All
ahead fully warped ............. "

I can see what you are getting at Miro, I am more interested in room shape,
ideal ceiling heights etc.

If you are serious then I suggest you investigate books titles dealing with
lighting design and possibly a fundamental book on acoustics and how they
are affected by various materials. There is a Scientific journal called
Acoustica which reveals credible research into various problems found in
home cinema. It is free at any engineering department at any large Uni. Just
photocopy the pages you need.
Most architecture schools have an acoustic lab as well as a depth of
research on poor design, in addition to the reference books.
All you need is a few examples and some basic research.
