Documentary: The Truth About Season Three
This documentary runs for approximately 20 minutes and show various cast and crew members including Chris Carter, Kim Manners, Darin Morgan and Mitch Pileggi discussing everything from the mythology and continuity of the episodes, the growth of the characters, special effect secrets, and ther favourite episodes in general to funny stories from the set involving cast and crew members.

Chris Carter Talks About Season Three:
In this section Chris Carter gives his opinion on and talks about 12 of his favourite
episodes form season 3.
Blessing Way(2.01 minutes), Paper Clip(1.52 minutes), Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose(1.49 minutes), Nisei(1.54 minutes), 731(1.53 minutes), War of the Coprophages(1.49 minutes)
Piper Maru(1.24 minutes), Apocrypha(1/25 minutes), Pusher(1.26 minutes),
Jose Chung's "From Outer Space"(1.08 minutes), Wet Wired(1.20 minutes) and
Talitha Cumi(1.34minutes).
I found this section very informative and fun to watch as Chris Carter talks about the meanings behind the episode titles and how they relate to the episode, how some of the special effect shots were done, why and how certain actors were chosen for episode characters (Jermiah Smith & Robert Modell) and so much more. I found this to be a fantastic addition to the DVD and is definitely worth watching at least once if not many times. This is one the fans will enjoy!

7 special effects clips with audio commentary by Mat Beck:

The first clip is from Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and runs for 3.53 minutes.

The second clip is from The Walk and runs for 1.26 minutes.

The third clip is from 731 and runs for .54 minutes.

The fourth clip is from Apocrypha and runs for 1.44 minutes.

The fifth clip is from Teso Dos Bichos and runs for 1.32 minutes.

The sixth clip is from Jose Chung's "From Outer Space" and runs for 1.41 minutes.

The seventh clip is from Quagmire and runs for .50 minutes.
Overall these special effects clips and the commentary are very informative and give a real insight into how much time and effort goes into producing the show. Another worthy addition to the DVD!

FX Behind The Truth spots:
These are 17 mini documentaries that run for around 1 minute each and feature various cast and crew members talking about particular episodes from season 3.
They discuss special effects, episode names, characters and you also get to hear some funny stories regarding everything from Gillian's allergy to cat fur in Teso Dos Bichos to maggots crawling over the extra in The list.

5 deleted scenes with commentary by creator Chris Carter

The first deleted scene is from The Blessing Way.
The scene runs for 3.54 minutes and is a continuation of the scene where a distressed Scully
goes to visit her mum. There are 2 parts to the scene.
The first where she is talking to her mum and the second where Melissa comes home and they have a discussion/argument. As we all know Melissa is killed not long after this.

The second deleted scene is from Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and runs for 1.48 minutes.
This scene is of a conversation Mulder has with Scully regarding Psychics and Mulder's
wish to find a genuine psychic.

The third deleted scene is from The list and runs for 3.02 minutes
This is a scene from just before Neech's execution which shows the nervousness of some people who think they may be on The List. The scene also shows Neech walking the corridor to his execution.

The fourth deleted scene is from Revelations and runs for 2.14 minutes.
This scene shows Scully & Mulder talking to Mr Kryder about the boy. In the deleted part Kryder
Says something in gibberish and Scully is able to understand it. Out in the hallway Mulder ask her how she knew what he said and she denies know what he is talking about.

The fifth deleted scene is from Avatar and is actually in 2 seperate parts.
The first part runs for 2.30 minutes and is a conversation between CSM and Skinner in which CSM questions Skinner's loyalty and basically threatens him.
The second part runs for 1.25 minutes and is a scene in which Skinner goes to visit his comatose wife in the hospital.

Overall these deleted scenes are very good as is the commentary by Chris Carter.
He gives some background info on each of the scenes as well as the reasons they were not included in the final cut. One awesome feature in the deleted scenes is that a portion of the normal episode is played in Black & White and then the deleted scene is slipped in place, but is in full colour and this easily helps distinguish the deleted section while also highlighting where it fits exactly in the episode.
A very cool feature!

TV spots:
These are basically 10 and 20 second spots that were aired in the US to advertise
the next episode to air in the current season.

AUDIO/VISUAL

You have a choice of English/French/Italian languages here.
The English Dolby Digital 2.0 surround mix isn't bad for a television series.
The rears aren't really put to work that much, but there are the occasional rear effects with various action scenes and others containing things such a passing space ship for example.
The speech is never a problem on these discs and the very recognisable music by Mark Snow is a perfect accompaniment to the often dark and eerie atmosphere.
Most of the sound does come from the front sound stage though, but it is pretty clear and well mixed overall.

The X-Files Season 3 is shown as 4:3 full screen.
The picture on all episodes is noticeably better than the first season for instance and I assume this is due to the bigger budget and higher production values in the 3rd season.
These season 3 episodes are mostly clean and free from noticeable marks and blemishes and the image is also very sharp for the majority of the time.
The show often has a dark look to it and blacks, shadow detail, flesh tones and colours were of an acceptable standard and held up well in the many darker and dimly lit scenes. There are moments when the picture quality slightly varies, but I felt that it was of a high standard overall for a television series and it looks pretty good on DVD.

OVERALL

There isn't much else to say other than WOW!
This Season 3 set is easily the best of the 3 releases so far and it is an absolute must have for all X-Files fans. It's already in stores and if you don't have it already, I suggest that you seriously consider this as part of your X-Files/DVD collection.
You can't go wrong here with 24 episodes from one of the best seasons in the eight or so years of what is The X-Files phenomenon.
The extra features are thoroughly enjoyable and help to make this 7 disc DVD set great value!
The Truth Is Out There and so is this Season 3 set! Go get it and enjoy!
