View Full Version : Yamaha RXV-1400 Causing Sub Hum

I have an rxv-1400 connected to Jensen speakers. The subwoofer is connected by a quad shielded sub cable. When the cable is removed from the subwoofer it does not hum. When the cable is removed from the amp, it does not hum. I have tried removing the antenna and every other cord other than the individual speaker output but there is no change. The hum appears to increase and decrease in volume (like a sine wave), cycling every second or so. The hum continues when the amp is off (standby). Previously (seems to come and go, very occasional) the sub will even turn itself on and hum loudly (I assume because the signal level reaches the "on" threshold. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
It seems, that I have a similar problem. I think, it is a kind of
slope in the electrical wiring ( I mean between earth, ground and
power-connection).
I must apologize, I am not an English native speaker, therefore my
words may sound amazing to you, but I hope, you will understand, what
I mean.
There is a possibility to connect a so called "Mantelstromfilter" to
the powerconnection for reducing the hum. Please check translation for
the German word in a dictionary.
I think, it has nothing to do with the RXV-1400, because I had the
same problem with my older AV-Receiver.
May be, this hint may help you.
Or you can ask an electronic-expert, if you know one. I am sure, it is
a quite normal electrical problem, which can occur with every
hardware. The hum seems to be the frequency of power ( 50 Hz mainly in
Europe, 60 Hz in the U.S.).

**Jaycar Cat# AA3085 should do the trick.
