Was about to buy a Panasonic DMRE50 when I noticed that Grace Bros have the
old E30 for $720, which is a great price. I could probably get the E50 for
$850 so trying to decide whether the extra dough is worth it - looking to
identify the differences in the two models.

As far as I know:

I know the E50 has:
QuickView - which would be nice, but not a killer)
Progressive Scan - no need for this - TV won't support and I won't be using
it as my main player anyway
Component Out - again, no advantage TV is RGB Scart so E30 Scart in and
Scart out is better for me)

I think I read somewhere once (but can;t find it now) that the E30 was able
to record AC-3 sound in SP mode but that this was not available in the E50,
not sure if that's true or not.

Anyone know of any other differences (features or performance)? Any info
appreciated.

Lastly, I understand that widescreen format can only be recorded on DVD-RAM;
only 4:3 available on DVD-R. Is this an attribute of the DVD-R media or is
there another reason?

Thanks.
