Need help on this one...I'm having problems with my new Lexmark Z22 and my old motherboard..it wont be recognized at all by my old M571 V3.2 mobo.Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? Any help would be much appreciated...Thanks in advance folks!:(
I have a Z22 as well but haven't used it with a M571 so here are some things to check:
First, did the parallel port work with a different printer? If not, or if you are not sure, then verify that the ribbon cable between the motherboard and printer connector is installed correctly.
Make sure that the parallel port is set for SPP (standard parallel port) in the BIOS setup.
Make sure printer to pc communications is not disabled in the printer control panel, as described in page 23 in the manual.
Make sure you have a IEEE-1284 compliant parallel port cable. This is required for bidirectional communications between the computer and printer and mine would not work on any of my systems until I got one.

Thanks brad...but I have test the printer with another two
different computers and it just worked fine. The problem seams to be with the M571 V3.2...in the Bios I have try on every setting possible,Standard, ECP and EPP and nothing seams to work.I have flashed the B-chip with the latest Bios and double checked every possible setting in the manual, but I only get some response from the printer, when I try in the options settings,"Disable Printer to PC communications"...any other
suggestions dude? Thanks in advance for your troubles my friend! :(
You're welcome. Did you use the same printer cable to test the printer on those other computers? If yes then chances are the ribbon cable that goes from the mobo to printer connector is defective or connected wrong. Could also be the mobo but it would be nice to try it with a different printer first. I have a HP697C that works fine on a M571 and it too uses bidirectional communications so it should work. I think what you need to concentrate on now is trying a different printer.

Well brad...Sorry my friend, I just forgot to mention on my last post that I also check it with my wife's Canon BJC-4300 and it wont work either.I'm going to check swapping the ribbon cable with one that I have spare hidden in some place, just give me a chance to look for it and I will let you know what happens. Thanks a lot dude...take care and have a nice day! :(
No problem. Make sure the ribbon cable is connected to the motherboard correctly. You know, the edge of the ribbon with the red stripe goes to pin 1 on the mobo connector.

Hello brad...Sorry for not getting to you sooner, but after long hours of searching through old boxes at the garage, I could not find the parallel ribbon I was looking for, but I did find an USB port extender, so I decided to give it a try. Thanks God...isworking like a dream, so I will leave it as it is for now, until I get another parallel ribbon to test it out. Thanks a lot for you help
dude...Happy Holydays and take care my friend.Hasta la vista amigo!
