When is townsville gonna get digital TV? We have had ABC for 4 months, and
the other channels where supposed to start broadcasting in December 2003.
Why is it so hard to get this going, when the major cities have had DTV for
so long?
Any info would be good, if anyone has any.

Thanx,
From a guy with an expensive paperweight on top of his tele.

I've had one of those paperweights since the ABC began broadcasting
digital. i've seen the other channels get deferred Oct-Nov-Dec-Jan-...
i doubt they'll start before April. if you're in Townsville then at
least you should at least get a half decent picture on analogue, But
in Ingham all the FTA channels are doing is giving us a good reason to
install Austar so we can at least get a clear reception of something
other than the ABC.
All the commercial FTA operators were given licences to print money 40
years ago. it's time they had to do something to keep their bloody
licences.

subscription TV in Australia is and always has been digital via
satellite.
i have a feeling that the move from the C1 satellite to B3 of the
globecast services may have freed up some transponders for an increase
of channels, but i think we'll have to wait till they complete the
digital upgrade of the *cable* subscription services before we see
anything extra.
i still have my old smartcard too. don't hold your breath waiting for
a new remote unless you're cashed up and want to buy one, i don't
think austar plan on replacing those until they break.

There are new channels up on the bird now, ready to be switched on. They
include about 10 time delay channels, (like show 2), and 10 new channels
like Lifestyle food, discovery travel and Tech tv etc.
You should have had a new smart card by now, that has either Chucky, or
spongueBob squarepants on it. If your serial no. on the card doesn't start
in 4, its an old card and will be turned off shortly. Ring Au* and ask about
it if you have an early serial no.
Remotes...Au* are getting manufactured new 'learning' remotes....they will
be issued with new installs after the new digital platform has commenced.
