I need a new PSU, & so far, I'm tossing up between the Leadman Powmax 400w & 500w units.
What I really want to know is.....
How good (or bad) r leadman power supplies in general terms of Reliability?
Any advice/help would be appreciated, as I can't even find any reveiws to read on it.
If u haven't had personal experiance with these PSUs, but know where i can find any feedback on them, Feel free to post a link.
Just please don't post a link to Leadmans website. I know all the specs, & the sales spiel I can do without. ;)
Thanks. CU.
PS. This is an urgent matter, I'm getting sick of rebooting !
Please Help !

I only recently got a PC from EYO with the Leadman 400w in it... i haven't done anything spectacular with the system so it is currently probably overpowered for what i actually have running, but apart from the slightly noticeable noise (kinda like sitting in an airliner, just not as loud) it seems to be pretty happy just whirling away 24-7.
I don't have any experience with Leadman power supplies. What kind of system are you going to use it in? Should work fine with an Intel CPU but if it is a AMD Athlon based system you should know that it is not on AMD's approved list, and it is wise to select one that is. It does make a difference, and not just in wattage.
Here is AMD's power supply info page (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_756_759^1039^1053,00.html)

I purchased one of these units in May 2000. I
The system it ran was a ASUS K7V Slot A MB, Athlon Slot A 700 MHZ CPU, 512 MB memory, 2 IDE drives and DVD.
It ran non stop (I have cable so the system is never powered off) until October last year at which time it failed - loud bang, lots of smoke.
It was replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, in failing, the power supply had also take out the motherboard.
Facing a long warranty replacement time for a superceeded board, I upgrade to an MSI K7T266 Pro2, Athlon 1800+, 512 MB of DDR SDRAM.
This setup has been running continuously since then.
As far as the cause of the PS failure, I don't know for sure but we did have some serious electrical storms on or near the time it failed.

a heavy duty surge protector/voltage regulator is probably a good idea if you intend to leave the 'puter on all the time :)

I agree, a surge protector is now installed!
A UPS would be better but for the load required, it's a bit expensive.
I'm also going to replace the Leadman PS with an Enermax - one that has the AMD seal of approval. The leadman will go into another box to power the now returned ASUS MB.

hehe. and that's how "new" old computers turn up in the house... parts that retire from the "front line" computers some how accumulate to the stage that you only need a few more bitz to make a new computer...

Thanx 4 the feed back every1.
I bought 1 anyway, & i'm not happy :(
It works fine, but has 1 fery anoying side efect.....
It's causing problems with my monitor.
It seems that Either it's EM or RF emmisions r so high as to affect my video card, probly due to the close proximity of the AGP slot to the PSU !
I'm gunna try installing a lead shield, I will post the result here.
There was also a strange anonmalie with the claims on the packageing (a fully colour box by the way)....
The Box sported a claim that the unit inside was aproved by AMD for use with Athlons, yet as Brad (i think) already pointed out, This PSU is not listed as an aproved PSU on the AMD website.
Well, I rekon i know who is wrong, & I'll be Stuffed if i'll ever buy or recomend another Leadman PSU.
Especially after reading about "Old Guys' " experience.
Thanks everyone for your input.

(Puzzled) Well, what does it matter where the case is, when
the Video card & PSU r both in the case!

well, it could be the EMF from the case affecting the monitor rather than the video card hehe :)

Well der !
Raki, That was obviously the 1st thing I checked. However, being such an obvious 1st step, I didn't feel the need the explain this in depth. Further more, my last post to this thread was a retorical question. It was my way of saying, "Think about what u r saying b4 u post!".
