Hi all,
Its been awhile and this is the first time on the new forum; it looks pretty good in the new format.
I am having problems activating a 2 USB port PCI card on my upgraded M571 V3.2a: Latest BIOS, K62-450, Aopen sound, Ati All in wonder 16 video. The card is detected by windows and it installs the USB drivers with no conflicts showing. But the instant you connect a USB device(ie. HP scanjet 2200C) the system locks up. Any suggestions of what to check? I'm new to USB devices.
Thanks,
Alan
Disable the on-board USB ports in the BIOS. If that doesn't fix it then delete the PCI card USB ports in the device manager, restart windows, and let windows re-detect them. You might also have to shuffle your PCI cards around so that USB doesn't share with another. Also suggest not putting it in PCI-1.

Hi brad. I have also added USB on my M571 v7a and have also enabled both USB options n BIOS (I think one is onboard and the other DOS). Seems to detect ok in Win2k although I do not have any USB devices. Should I be disabling those 2 options ?

Thanks for the quick reply Brad. I have been doing a little homework and now realize that the M571 boards already have USB and PS/2 mouse support on the boards waiting to be enabled in BIOS. Wow, I just may keep this computer a little while longer now. I'm going to try shuffling the PCI cards around again and connect an ATX Form card to the board. This should allow me to connect a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse which require these connections. I'll keep you posted of my results.

An update on my progress with USB. I installed PS/2 and USB connectors to J7 and enabled the support in BIOS. After a little homework and rearranging pins on the generic adapters I bought, I connected them and they work excellent. However, I still could not get the PCI USB card to function in any of the PCI slots. I'm going to test it on another system. Regardless, I have the USB and PS/2 support I wanted. Thanks for the help.
