I have a H/K AVR7000 amp (3/4 years old) which when used in pro-logic has
occassional (big) drops in volume. This occurs both with the foxtel STB and
the thompson digital STB. Both are analogue composite audio out connected to
individual video inputs. When I switch surround to OFF, normal stereo
through the 2 fronts works fine and normal volume is restored. Digital input
and 6-ch sound (DVD, SACD) is fine.

Any Ideas ? Is there a dedicated pro-logic "chip" that can be replaced in
this beast ?

Do these drop outs occur during a program or only with different programs/ads. If the latter it could be that your amp requires the signal to have the prologic marker to operate correctly in that mode - something that would not affect the stereo mode. Not all programs contain this marker and sound quite different - they tend to come from the centre speaker only in my setup.

If you have a DVD player try a DVD with a prologic soundtrack and also one with a straight stereo soundtrack (a CD would work for this). Listen in prologic mode to see if the sound drops out.

No idea if it's a single chip, but I'm sure it's fixable.

I like using DTS Neo when the audio is being broadcast as simple stereo, MPEG or
PCM I think, but when it's DD 2.0 I use ProLogic too. I have the H/K 4500.
