View Full Version : Ability to "Leave Forums Unread"?

Before I start, I realise that what I'm asking about is probably a fairly major forum hack, if it exists at all. And since we're only running a beta, implementing anything major is probably a waste of time. So this is more a suggestion for the future, if such a hack exists.

While at work, I sometimes want to log in here and send a PM, or post a quick message - however I don't have time to read all of the recent responses. Later when I get home it can be frustrating having to work out where I was up to in each thread.

What I would like to have is a button which effectively pretends I was never here. I realise that the read/unread determination is based on the "You last visited:" time - I would like to be able to click a button which would basically reset my "last visited" time to the previous one. That way I could come on, post a message or send a PM, and get out in a few minutes without causing hassles later that night.

As I say, this is likely a major hack if it does exist. Just suggesting that it may be something worth looking for when the full software version is released and implemented. :)

Yeah, I have a similar problem (Library/Home)
I use the internet at 1/3am at home, i hate that there are no new posts because the day has changed, can i change it so it thinks its the day before, should i change my location to WA or something?

I would like that too.

And on the ones I have read, and 1 new post comes, to click the unread messages button and only get the last message...

But this is problem major programming crap

I will do a search to see if there is an existing hack. I don't really have time at the moment to write code for the forums. I must say it is a good idea of a hack though. :)

Would be a nice to have, I access them from multiple PC's also and would find it useful.

Just got an idea. Has anyone tried this?

At work, browse the forums, but do not close the browser before going home.

I noticed in amongst your fixing the forums I clicked 'view new posts' I recieved the new posts, then further down the page is said The following posts have not been update since your last visit, but contain unread posts, it seemed pretty good because it was still listed in date of post order, meaning if I missed one or two threads, they were usually in the top few in this list.

This doesn't seem to be in place anymore though.

Yep, this new feature rules all! :D

Does exactly what I wanted. Love the upgrade.

Oh, and I like the "posts in the last 24 hours" option as well.
