Here's a thing...
Until yesterday my Thomson remote worked conventionally
-- 1=10; 2=2; 3=28; 7=7; 9=9
Since yesterday it has taken it into its head to
reallocated the remote buttons -- now 1=10; 2=2; 203-
28; 72=7 and 9=9
203 for SBS? Where did that come from? 3 no longer
works -- it sticks on the previous channel and freezes
the frame. Same with 7 -- sticks and freezes. But press
72 and 7 comes up fine.
Is this some sort of known issue with the Thomson? Is
there a way of resetting the remote buttons?

I've had a first gen Thomson STB for years. The recalcitrant piece of shit
always freezes on 7, weekly drops channels and generally plays up. No
firmware upgrades available of course.
Cant wait until HD STBs come down in price so I can drop kick it over the
back fence.
Just my $AU0.02.

My Thomson had this problem as well, I tend to find SBS' signal the weakest
of all the networks so it seems to jump between 3 and the 300 numbers. Just
rescan the channels and it should do it, if not maybe wait until a time you
know the SBS signal is stronger

I agree with rescanning, but I found better to actually delete the carriers and start the scan from from scratch.
I often lost[7], so allocated [72] as my favorite for the seven carrier. [10] sometimes disappeared so for that carrier favorite I used [12] etc etc. Doing this ensured the programme is never lost in future.
Some of my low signal levels on particular channels eventually turned out to have been caused by worn out connectors on the tv coax leads from the wall to the dvb receiver. Replacing them with quality leads meant no more problems.
