View Full Version : DVD Component cable to RGB/VGA D-Sub?
I have an RGB D-Sub connector on the front on my TV (as well as a component
connector on the back).
Is there a component cable (just 3 RCA) to RGB/VGA D-Sub that would I could
hook a DVD player in through this? Would a DVD player need progressive scan
output (or other feature) to do this?
I also have a 17" Samsung Widescreen LCD monitor. Does anyone know if its
possible to hook up a DVD player straight to the monitor with a component to
RGB or DVI cable, if these cables exist, and if there are shops that stock
them and know that they do? Once again would a DVD player need progressive
scan (or other feature) to do this?
I've been to several different shops with these questions and noone seems to
have any idea about this at all, or even if its possible.
Also I've researched TV-Tuner boxes (which also have VGA/composite/S-video
input) for LCD monitors from Avermedia and other companies. Many different
models around but only the Avermedia TV Box 9 seems to support widescreen
output (and I can't find it for sale in Oz yet). If a component to RGB/VGA
cable doesn't exist this would be a reasonable alternative. Does anyone
know of any devices on sale in Australia (or I guess anywhere) which will
output to LCD monitors in widescreen?
Thanks
G.
Different signal types. A cable alone will not work.

RGB to Component converters are hugely expensive... cheaper to buy a DVD
player with RGB out if you need it (many Euro models).
For the DVD to DVI - there are a few devices around that will do component
or s-video to VGA, which you could use an adapter to DVI with. No easy
cable solution, maybe $100-200 for the black box which you'd have to add
your own cables to...
Cheers, Jason - remove macrovision to reply : )

This works out to be about AUD$250-300.
Not exactly cheap..

I saw a set of cable converter at Aldi last week you may want to check
it out, it was quite cheap <$20. I remember it has almost everything
svideo/component etc, I only took a quick look I could be wrong.
