Hi all,

From what I understand, most (all) SD (& HD) cards can record the
MPEG2 stream direct to hard disk.

If I want to put the recording onto DVD (ie: in DVD-video format) do I
need to re-encode, or is the stream DVD-Video compliant? The reason I
ask is that I want to use an old 450mhz PC for the task, which would
handle the capturing & burning, but would be too slow to re-encode to
be practical.

Also, what is the bitrate of the SD dig streams? If want I want to do
above is possible, how much video can I get onto a DVD in its native
format?

Thanks,

Robmash

Yes.

Yes. No. There are some small differences.

I dont see why thats too slow. Even if it does need to decode and
reencode from scratch, does it need to be realtime?

Around 7Mbps, so 90 Mins on a 4.7GB DVD. Depends on the station.

Have a look on the net for a program called PVAStumento,
which adjusts a DTV SD stream to DVD compliant format.

Much faster than re-encoding.
