I would like to confirm this finding (originally noted from one of the monster xms-888 thread) and that the screeching doesn't happen on other files that I've tested.

Any other users experienced this problem??

Almost sounds like a dts signal going through a non dts amp.

Probably a good analogy, easy enough to not try and use the eq with ac3 but I think that they may have to disable the eq during ac3 playback in the firmware so speakers don't get damaged. I'm not even sure why they put eq's in these players.

Hi,
I found another problem with a couple of avi's encoded with mp3.
XMS888 makes some roaring sounds when low frequences involved, say, male voices or music. In fact, you can't even hear what they are saying.
First, I thought it is a bad audio encoding.
They look pretty normal (128kbs, 44khz, not sure, have to check)
and play fine on PC. I will do more experiments tonight and try to cut
out a roaring sample. However, I had some problems before making
samples out of "bad" files. So not 100% sure that I'll be able to reproduce
the problem.

I had this problem awhile back and it seemed to be associated with the PBC button being used. I have not used the PBC button since and have never had the screeching since(even for files that were doing it). SOunds wierd but that is part of the course for this player.
