I recently bought a TEAC DV2120 from DigSmith for $89.
However, I put my Divx5.0 MPEG4 Movie (recorded in a Single 700MB CDR) and it prompt up with
"unknown disc" after "loading" for a while.
I can play the movie from any P3 or P4 computer using Divx player2.5
Is there any firmware that I can upgrade the TEAC DV2120 to play the DIVX5.0 MPEG4 movie ??
Thanks !

Sorry ricky321, I seriously doubt you could.
DivX players are fairly new, (and at the moment about the cheapest would be the XMS-888 at $188).
They have specialised chips in them for divX / mpeg4 playback, that an ordinary DVD player does not have.

Ive got one of these players. Ripped the cover off it too! He he. Uses the father chipset of MPEG-4 decoding in consumer devices. The SIGMA 8500 although i hear that now, a newer chipset version of the SIGMA is used. From my understanding in the alst few months, the ESS chipset has supported Divx3 better than the SIGMA although the ESS chipset doesnt do DivX 4 and 5 too well. However after downloading the latest firmware update from neuston, its been great in fact!
Good player. The compatibility on MPEG-4 codecs are outstanding and the simplicity of the menus are also advantageous. Has a few refinements such as pan and scan, zooming functions and a whole lot more.
HOWEVER, gotta say, the remote is not that nice to look at and the batteries provided just dont last too long. Thats my only complaint to date. Oh, the insutruction manual seems as if its written for real idiots! Gosh. We're not that stupid! Or are we? :-)

Also see where neuston player comes from..
neuston Corporation is a Singapore company mate.
Doesn't mean they can't import the goods from china and re-sell?
I suppose we could ask them.

Importing isn't that easy :(. For example if you can come up with about $180,000 you can import yourself the latest and greatest MPEG4 player for $75. Just have to work out what to do with the other 3000 :)
err.. sell them for $150 and on the right path to early retirement? :>

Just noticed this over at cdrinfo regarding new KISS players coming soon, nice to see some new features coming.
Kiss announced a bunch of new DVD Players that will support Microsoft's WMV9 (Windows Media Video 9) video codec.
The new players will be presented in this year's Cebit and we are really looking forward to have a personal look at. DP-900 and DP-608 will be the first players that will support WMV9 and play HDTV movies.
Microsoft announced the first films of this design, only for the USA so far. Also Kiss Technology plans to release DVD players that will support the MPEG codec system too.
The capabilities of these DVD players are awesome, supporting communication with an Ethernet/LAN network and permitting the rendition of films, music and pictures from a LAN or the InterNet.
A removable disk digital video recorder codenamed DP-568 is going to be available in market this summer. This video recorder is going to fill the gap which last-generation videos opened. The DP-568 will be able to record up to 182 continuing hours of video and save it in various video formats (MPEG1-4,divx), hence replenishing the need for recording a television program in good quality.
The manufacturer will provide further details about the new devices at the CeBIT, where the CDR-infos journalistic team will cover the event and will gladly provide us with more accurate information.
According to kiss, a whole new generation of DVD players will soon be released to take their stand in our living rooms.

I only didn't post the link due to the site having excessive popups, including some malicious ones according to spybot.

I am bringing in a small batch of 100 as a pre-runner to a container of mixed product in late May all based on Mpeg4. It uses the same chip as the Trio.
