chris it isnt illegal to own r1 dvds, and a couple of good places to start are online. www.absound.ca and www.dvdboxoffice.com

both are in canada where our dollar fares a little better than the states.Box office is dearer but has free shipping. They also take longer to deliver approx 2 weeks.Absound normally take around a week.

;) Hi Scott, I think you misunderstood me, I know it is not illegal to buy R1 movies, i do it myself ,what I meant was that melbourne has a "Brick and Mortar" site where they sell some R1 discs, I was wondering whether anyone up here in Brisbane knew of a place here that does the same.
BTW - hope you are happy with Hi Fidelity

There is a place on Adelaide Street (near Albert) called Rocking Horse Records that sells the odd region 1 DVD. Their prices are extraordinarily inflated and their range is abysmal. I have not been there for some time.

If second-hand region 1 is of interest, UniDisc at the University of Queensland has about 250-350 DVDs (many are region 4). The owner is eccentric and his pricing is generally too high. The DVDs are always in great condition, but most of the region 1 ones are old-catalogue titles.

I have searched in vain, and would also like to know if anyone has found anywhere in Brisbane...

Another mixed store in Brisbane for R1's is Rockaway Records www.rockaway.com.au

Only two stores in the world...one in Los Angeles in the states and one here based in Brisbane.
