Does anyone know if the xms 888 is able to decode dts 5.1 sound? I purchased the xms 888 today, when I first tried 5.1 i got a noise that was a cross between a muffled high pitch screech and someone running their fingers down a blackboard. I updated to the latest firmware and now, no screech, just total silence on dts 5.1. ac-3 5.1 seems to work ok.
Anyone tried the test tone in the speaker setup page, it scrolls through all the speakers, but the tones are only heard only left and right. The center, s-left & s-right, no tone, downmix is off and all speakers are set to on
lastly the xms-356, that is a 5.1 surround speaker system, with remote. Problem here is the remotes clash, trying to adjust the volume with xms356 causes the disc to eject, or return to the start of the movie, trying to use the xms888 remote cause the volumes to change, any suggestions here, I cant believe it, does this mean you are only suppose to own on piece of xms hardware at a time?
Apart from that, very happy I’ve finally got a mpeg4 player, tested a couple of movies, seemed pretty good to me.

Not sure on the DTS question, some players will decode the DTS signal while most will just pass the DTS signal to the digital output to be decoded by he amplifier. To play a DTS soundtrack you will have to manually select the DTS track on the DVD though as they never default to the DTS soundtrack as it is possible to cause speaker damage.
The issue with the test tones was reported by andw, if you haven't done so already I would suggest you check out his site at www.xms888.tk for the most up to date info on your player.
It's not the first time that there has been hardware that have remotes that clash, even though both units are XMS they are made by different factories, if you explain your situation to the store you bought it from they will arrange an alternate component for you so that you don't have that problem, whether you change to a different DVD player or different speaker kit is up to you, shouldn't be a problem either way. If you have any issues getting this done contact me off list to discuss.

I use the XMS88 straight into a cheap arse 5.1 input subbie/satellite combo, so I only have the XMS888's decoding to choose from.
I seem to remember I played Dinosaurs DTS without a hitch and definately have no problems decoding DD.
Cheers,

Good.... that confirms what I reported in Announcement XMS888 firmware v1.2 forum.
Have a look there for details on which audio/analogue/digital combinations work and which don't.
Waiting for someone with a DTS amp to confirm that DTS produces valid output at all.
:)
Had a question regarding AC3 5.1 ... Problem resolved now ...
