After opinions as to which one would have a better Sound/CD Transport out of
the two? I am not interested in the DVD-5000's DVD features, just the audio
side.

This comparison would included S10, S10MKI, S10MKII and S10MKIII.

Cheers

Hi,

Is yours a Euro spec DVD-5000 or US spec.?
Main difference was the US model was THX certified.

When it comes to CD replay, the DCD-S10 totally blows the DVD-5000 away.

From What Hi-Fi, June 1999:

" Musically, the DVD-5000 is a big disappointment. It souunds refined and
clean, but it lacks dynamics and musicality, and struggles against
conventional CD players which cost considerably less. "

At the time the only DVD players that had decent CD replay were the Sony
DVP-S7700 and Pioneer DV-717.

The Sony (and the earlier DVP-S7000) are popular as CD transports and can be
picked up cheaply.

If you are after good CD performance it's best to stick to a dedicated CDP.

cheers,
