Total Novice Question On Hooking Up Stuff!!

Hi,

I am hoping someone might be able to help me out. I am a total novice in all this technical stuff, so while laughing please bear with me.

I have bought and hooked up a sound system, with surround sound speakers and DOlby Digital etc....to my TV ( through FOXTEL ) as well as hooking it up to my Playstation. It works okay, except when I play back a Video on my VCR. The sound only plays back through the normal TV speakers. Why?

What stupid thing have I done wrong? Do I perhaps need another cable or something? Hope someone can help me out, by replying in plain english. Thanks heaps!!

What is your VCR plugged into? Straight into the TV? What type of
connections?

Since you can only hook the VCR up 2 ways (RF or composite), and you apparently can only hear sound on the TV, i'm gonna take a stab and say you used the RF (antenna) cable. To get the sound back into the reciever you would have to either use a 3-to-3 RCA cable (same as what the playstation has, except on both ends) to plug the vcr into the reciever, or get a 2-to-2 RCA (just red and black/white) and loop back the audio from the TV.
