Hi Hazzard,
What can you tell us all about the new digital service. You have satellite
so I realise the picture won't be much different...but what about the new
channels, the EPG, remote control etc....how are you finding it.

That would require a dedicated channel for each different forecast.

No, it doesn't require separate channels. On Austar, we've been able
to get local weather by putting in our postcode for a quite a while.
Although, it's not instantaneous.
I don't know if Foxtel is the same but, to get local weather details
straight away on Austar, you press 'OK' on the remote and then choose
your location from the menu screen.

Hi Ozgal.
Yeah, happy with it. My main interest lies with Nat Geo and Discovery,
History channel etc, so I am a happy camper because these are the main
channels that have been expanded.
I don't have any movies connected because with my 300+ DVD's, I'm quite
happy to watch one of those when I get the urge or the time to watch a
movie.
News Interactive is handy, although nothing to write home about. If you have
seen the UK Sky News, you will see them refer to the wall of 8 different
screens that you can select, such as "Top Story" "Sport" "Entertainment"
"Weather" etc.....
These other panels are simply loops which show that particular subject over
and over. For eg, if you choose the "Top Story" (or whatever it is), you
will see a 2 or 3 minute loop of the newsreader covering the main story and
that's it. Just straight from the hourly news bulletins. Hope I have
explained that properly.
EPG is great. Instead of just being able to check what's on next, you can
check for the next 7 days, with the electronic programmer which sets up
'reminders' for you, for the next week. You then go to your own Program page
and it shows you what shows you have selected to watch over the coming week
and will remind you accordingly when the show is about to start.
A guide for ALL channels can be viewed at once using the EPG, or you can
view only the sports channels guide, or the news and documentaries channels
guide, or entertainment channels guide or movies, etc. So to save you
scrolling through over 100 channels looking for say......................the
Biography channel, you just select it to show you "News and Documentaries"
and it cuts the selection down to about half a dozen channels all relevant
to that topic.
PPV channels are almost too easy to use. One wrong press of the button and
you have ordered yourself a porn movie or an FBO movie.
Remote is VERY easy to use, although it does not have a 'swap' button which
takes you back to the previous channel, in case you are switching between 2
channels. If it does. I haven't found it.
My wife came home last night and even though we already had sat, she said
there is an improvement in the picture quality. If there is, I can't notice
it.
If you wanna order an FBO movie, you don't have to scroll through the menu
to find the right page, all you do is hit the "Box Office" button on the
remote and it will take you to the FBO page. Also a "Planner" button to take
you to your personally set up planner which I spoke of.
As I said, my main interest is the History, Discovery and Science channels,
so I am happy as there are more of them. The "How To" and "Food" channels
seem to be just off-shoots of Lifestyle. E channel is not bad. Being a 70's
and 80's child, VH1 is also pretty damn good.
Anything I've missed, just ask.

I haven't had digital installed yet, but I read in the online manual
pressing the BACK button allows flipping between 2 channels! I certainly
hope it does

Thanks for the run down Hazzard,
Sounds pretty good to me. I am looking forward to the Discovery Health
Channel, E!, How To and TV Tech....so that should keep me happy for a while.
Appreciate you taking the time out to keep us up to date....am wondering
what my chances are of getting the install tomorrow as scheduled....judging
by others in Melbourne today....a few are still waiting....but I'm hopeful.

Any time.
Yeah, I must say, the people that were due to be installed after me kept
ringing my installer asking where he was because it took him just over 4
hours. He told em he would be at their place at 8pm. LOL
I think they are under-estimating the time it takes to install the phone
lines.

I read that in the manual also. I can tell ya, it doesn't change channels.
All it does is gets you back to the previous menu page, like the "back"
button on a computer browser. It doesn't change any channels.

My hope was that the FOXTEL button did that, based on the following line
from Page 5 of the manual:
"To return to the digital channel you were last watching, press FOXTEL."

Again, that is only if you are in the menu. Just press the "Foxtel" button
and it will take you out of the menu and back to normal TV viewing. Like the
"Home" button on your web browser, it takes you back to the main screen (so
to speak.)

Hi mate. The only FTA channels on Sat are SBS and 9. The rest just have the
test pattern. If you push the 'info' button on 7, 10, 2, it says "Channel 7
(or 10 whatever), has not entered into agreement to have it's service
retransmitted via satellite".

E! has a TON of repeats, especially Wild On and then there is "Celebs
