I've read on various sites that its important to have macrovision disabled. Leads me to think "What is macrovision and why is it so important to have it disabled?"

This is the info taken from one of the FAQ sites;

"...a copy protection system built into all DVD players and encoded on some discs. It interferes with video synchronisation pulses making it impossible to record to VHS, but can also cause problems with video projector, rear projection TV, or if the DVD player's output is connected through a VCR's auxilliary input, so it's a popular subject for modifications...."

Hope it helps. :D

My opinion only. I don't think having macrovision disabled is such a big deal. You'd only want it off, if you wanted to record from DVD to VHS. I can't see why you would want to watch a VHS copy of a DVD. Like I said, my opinion only...

Or you have a TV that only has RF input, like mine.
I couldn't watch DVD's if I had a macrovision enabled DVD player.

Mytrini, perhaps I might like to watch VHS copies of DVD's when I no longer have access to the DVD.

You can use a Macrovision-enabled DVD player on an RF TV without a VCR: you need an RF modulator (ca. $60 at Dick Smith). Then again, you'd be better off saving for a modern TV. I knew someone who used a modulator, and the picture quality was woeful.

As regards Macrovision and some of your other questions, Ashworthington, I recommend you look at this site:

http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html

It gives a clear explanation of almost all aspects of DVD, including Macrovision.
