Hello all!
A newbie here who would greatly appreciate some help.
I am hoping to buy my first DVD/home theatre setup
and have come across so far.

Panasonic SA-HE200 reciever (6channel/DTS-ES/DTX) for $799

Panasonic DVD-S75($299)

Speakers were originally DTX LOGON pack(2 fronts/2 rears/sub/centre)
$799

but I was inclined to change the speakers because I couldn't find any information about them on the net or from anyone I knew..

Gale speakers I have been told are very good.
The speaker package (2 fronts/2 rears/sub/centre) is $1300

This is from JB HF-FI Brisbane

Can anyone tell me if the speakers are good and the reciever if it is a good combination?

I think that the hardest part is deciding on the speakers for the package..
Thank-you very much!

Not sure if you have bought yet, but I wouldn't recommend an AV receiver by Panasonic. For $800 you should look at brands like Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha, Denon and Onkyo. Steer clear of any other stuff. Not sure about the DVD, but don't feel obliged to buy the same brand as the receiver.

As for speakers, DTX is just a JB Hifi brand (I think?) and may be pretty ordinary sound wise. Go for a brand that has some web reviews/feedback. You may be better of buying a couple of good mid range speakers and then getting more as the budget allows. There are plenty of good book shelf speakers in the $600~$800 per pair price bracket that would have FAR FAR better sound quality than any cheapie. In the long run you will be much better off. Trying to sell cheap crap speakers is HARD, I know from experience.

Enjoy, sounds like you are going to have fun when all setup.

Hi pavehawk,

I have to agree with Redbears here!

Don't buy cheap crap speakers. I have been slowly building up my Home theatre for years and have a decent amp (pioneer VSA-E08) and only have 4 speakers... If you buy a really decent pair of front speakers you can skimp out on the centre and sub (as I have) until you can afford something that sounds a whole lot better.

My rear speakers are part of a sony package set that I split with my bother until I get something better like B&W bookshelfs etc.

Also definitly go with a better amp as this is what drive's the speakers. Stay away from the panasonic, as you'll here far too much noise (hiss) through your movie, in which case you could save all your money and just put the audio through the TV.

Cheers, Oracle ;)
