Yes it does have a VGA port and we have tested it. Basically hook it to your PC Monitor and set the menu input to VGA and the Player will play your movies on your PC Monitor.

There will be a few companies selling for below the $159 price on the Zensonic. Check out www.megapc.com.au. I think they have it for $143. I dint see any VGA out on the Viewmaster one as well.

For some reason.. there's other aus sites (google for 'viewmaster dvd967') selling the DVD967 but never mention that it's a divx/mpeg4 player......

Strange... as that would be the biggest selling point?

I noticed on the specs that it has the 1379, not the 1389 chip.
Perhaps the 1379 isn't too flash at doing Mpeg-4?

So there's 2 different DVD967... one with mkt1379.. and the newer ones are with mkt1389... Surely a model name change would have been warranted?

I don't know about two different DVD967's, all I'm pointing out is the fact that the information from the above link for the DVD967 Mpeg-4 player, shows that this player has the 1379 chip.
I was just wondering if the reason that some sites don't list it as an Mpeg-4 capable player, may be that the 1379 chip doesn't work as well as the 1389 chip at decoding Mpeg-4. Therefore, the sellers don't want to list this as one of the players strong points. (of course this is pure speculation - but I do seem to remember something about the 1379 chip that I saw somewhere previously that left me with this understanding, but I can't remember where)

Who said that 1379 chip supports Mpeg-4 ? It never did.
Say, Philips DVD-625 is on 1379 and never supported MP4.

"The MTK1379 chipset does not support DivX so there'll never be a
firmware upgrade available to enable this" - this is from Yahoo discussion
forum on MTK 13x9 firmware discussion group.
If some sellers claim that it does, they are just lying and trying to get rid of
old models.

The above link for the "Mpeg-4" player, says that it supports divx, and also seems to indicate that it has a 1379.
Also, this player http://www.best-portable-dvd-player-manufacturer.com/dvd-player/DV939.htm seems to say the same.
However, my vague recollection of what I remember reading (but cannot find now - sorry) was that the 1379 was next in progression (1369, 1379, 1389). I seem to remember it saying something about it having 'some' mpeg-4 capabilities but it wasn't a 'full' mpeg-4 capable chip. (sorry, this is a bit fuzzy, just like my memory).
(i.e. they had put 'a bit' in, as they moved towards the 1389 - I wish I could find the link now, it would make a lot more sense)

p.s. even if the 1379 does have limited support, the firmware would have to support this function.
So, a player that has a 1379 chip, would not necessarily support divx, even if the chip is capable. (and I'm not sure either way)

p.p.s. on re-reading the links, maybe the players don't have 1379's, and they are only making comparisons...

General function
Six 108MHz/12 -bit DACs,(MTK1379 is 54MHz/12 bit)
Perhaps they are saying that this player is better because it has Six 108MHz/12 -bit DACs compared to the MTK1379's 54MHz/12 bit DACs.
Perhaps my memory is just hazy.

Now this is impressive (Kiss DP-558), there's not much that it doesn't do...

We've tried talking to these guys about their products and they have not been very helpful so far, perhaps they don't want to do business here. We did however find the manufacturer that does their stuff under license so we may have another avenue yet, nothing confirmed though.

Is it because we are such a small market?
(You only want how many?.... :o )

Perhaps, we don't present much of a market for any of these manufacturers on a world scale, maybe they don't think it's worth the trouble. To put this into perspective for you, we sell 100k DVD players a year, one model that we had at xmas time we bought 5k of (the $68 AD1500) Wal Mart in the US bought 600k of that one model for xmas sales. That's some of the reason that we have to work so hard for things like firmware updates, we are such a small section of the market.

If anyone is still looking for KiSS products, they have finally landed in Australia! The distributor is Qualifi and the resellers are Harvey Norman. I don't know if there are any other resellers.

I picked up my DP-558 today. :D

Dare I ask how much they are selling for?
Is the TV tuner Analogue, or Digital?
edit: And can you copy a recorded TV show to a PC for burning to disc?

RRP is $1499 and that's what Harvey Norman are selling them for. The tuner is analogue. It includes an ethernet interface controlled via software.

This will give you an idea of the tweaks available - http://www.kiss-tuning.nl/

I've been waiting for these to be available here for the last 6 months or so - I have contacts in the US who have them, and I haven't heard a single negative comment. All I need to do now is run a CAT5 cable from the study to the lounge room. ;)

I emailed the kiss-tuning site admin person.
I noticed in their 'forum' section they had links to a bunch of sites around the world to different divx based forums, but nothing from Australia.
He was happy to include a link to eyo, so hopefully other Australian based users who are looking around his site will come here to post info.
