We have gone through the instructions given, and are stuck with what to connect to where etc.... As I am not very experienced when it comes to this sort of thing, anyones help would be much appreciated. :)

Instruction manuals for Jap stuff are usually pretty clear, what exactly are you having trouble hooking up??
Maybe the collective here can give you some pointers....

We're trying to connect a DVD player, VCR and the TV to the amp, but we either can't read the instructions properly or we are lacking a few cords (we seem to only have 2 sets of the red/yellow/white cords). We have hooked up the speakers to the amp no worries, but its just these 3 that we are having trouble with.

You'll definitely need more than 2 sets of the composite cords (red/yellow/white ones). You can make the process as difficult or as easy as you want, depending on what you want to be able to do with the amp, ie. DVD, Video and TV sound all running through, or just DVD etc.
to get the most, ad assuming you have the room to plug everything in as its pictured, follow the picture link attached, it's the first thing I found with a quick google search. http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/htd/hookingitup3.gif

you can use different cords depending on your tv and the dvd player out put as well, such as componant and S-video.
If you havn't got enough cords and you want to get stuck into a dvd straight away, just use one of the sets of cords you have to connect the dvd player to the amp, with just the audio to the amp, and the video from the dvd player to the tv.

OK, you need to understand what type of connections each unit has. Does the DVD player have optical/coaxial digital out, or does it only have stereo RCA or 5.1 out? You need to know if your amp supports composite/S-Video switching. You will need to know what type of input your TV can accept, composite or S-Video or RGB or component or one of these via SCART.
Assuming your DVD has optical/coaxial out and S-Video out, plus your amp supports S-Video switching and your TV supports S-Video in, here is how you would do it.
Connect the DVD to the amp with an optical or coaxial digital cable (if you want Dolby Digital 5.1) otherwise use the red and the black RCA cable. Connect the S-video out on the DVD to the S-video in on the amp (probably marked DVD) use the monitor S-video out on the amp to the TV. Simple.
For this you will need:
1x Optical or Coaxial digital lead (or Stereo RCA black/red if no 5.1 sound)
2x S-video leads most likely male to male, but check your equipment first.
Basically it sounds like you don't have the correct leads for starters.
Over to you....

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like i need to go pick myself up a Coaxial lead or optical digital out because the DVD player and the Amp definetly support 5.1. The DVD/Amp basically support everything just the TV (has the composite and basic antenna component) so ill hook the TV to the Amp with the composite cables, VCR to amp with composite cables, and the DVD player will go via the coaxial or optical digital out.
P.S. Was there any difference between coaxial or Optical digital? ie one better than the other?
Cheers again, Warmo

Much of a muchness really, depends on how long the cable needs to be, plus optical is more readily available and cheaper.

Well, we're still trying to sort it out. They bloke at Megamart told us we didn't need a coaxial or optical so we went back home, he gave us some useless instructions and we're sort of back to square one again.
And it was supposed to be as simple as pie.....

Maybe you could post the details and model #'s of your setup or a link or two so we could look them up and figure out exactly how you could set them up?
