hey guys
Ive noticed that there hasnt been much discussion about the Trio-628 as the XMS-888. Is it because its most people rushed out and bought the XMS before the Trio was available? or they dont want to buy it because of its flaws?
From what i could glean from posts, the biggest problem the Trio has is trouble reading some discs.
Can somebody who has this player comment?
Any problems reading DVD-R / DVD-RW?
Firmware availability?
I went in to test one, and had trouble with DVD-RW DVD+RW DVD+R (I didn't have any -R's with me when I tested).
Jok11n had more luck with discs, perhaps he can post which discs worked with the one he tested.
(TDK DVD-RW & +RW, cheap silvertop Strathfield +R's)
No problems reading DVD originals, or CDR's / CDRW's.

I also had problems with reading discs, it read Princos no problem, some other cheap discs it didn't want to know about. Basic firmware is not bad as is, but the distributor has asked for feedback on anything that is an issue (they have a good track record for firmware fixes on their other products, hopefully that will remain the same) the only thing I could suggest is that if you want one of these that you choose media that the player is happy with and stick to that brand.
There will be several other players available very soon so your choices will be much wider then.

Anybody check how it handles error correction on a normal pressed silver DVD? ie a scratched DVD?
I wonder what chipsets the new players will be based on and how much they will cost.

would a firmware update solve the disc compatibility issue though? Surely this is a hardware issue?
