How did they do that? Most of the work is (or should be) in installing the

Obviously all those installers were happy because that's what they signed up
to. After agreeing to work for that amount they've just decided they want
more.

There's a bit more to it than that. They have been getting paid a set rate
per install - but those installs which used to take 30 mins are now taking
average of 2 to 4 hours. Also they have been given no training on the new
setup either. The only instruction manual they get is the same one given to
the customer!!
Another of their gripes is nobody's telling them what the process is for
additional STB's in other rooms with regard to the return-path --- my guess
is because nobody at Foxtel cares and they just expect the installers to
somehow sort it out themselves.
As many of them said on the news tonight - it's just not worth getting out
of bed for. They may as well go and work elsewhere.
Kwyjibo.

That's a bit of a ripoff.

I heard this today and thought - Big Fucking Deal.
I have 2 problems with this complaint:
1- How much harder could it possibly be? They are connecting the same
coax to the box and one addition 2 pair/cat-5 for the return path. If
they can't figure it out they should look for another job.
2- They are *sub-contractors* and are only working in the industry as a
result of skills they should already possess.
Since when did it become the resonsibility of the firm hiring the
subcontractors (Telstra in this case) to train them?
Once again, if they don't already have the required skills or be willing
to pay to gain the skills, look for another job. I have never heard of
contractors being trained by the hiring company (with the exception of
site specific training such as OH&S etc.)

They might as well. If that's the sort of shit they are complaining about
lets see how they survive in the real world.

Also Max, from what I hear, they have to do now more stuff at home, i.e.
stocktakes, reports etc...so a 8-10 hour day, turns into 'plus
2'.....hmmm...

WHY are they taking longer?

Then they stick in the return path, give the manual to the customer and tell
the customer to sort it out with Foxtel. It wouldn't hurt to tell the
customer that Foxtel haven't provided adequate training.

The logical thing to do would be to install an outlet at each STU.

It shouldn't be too hard for any license/registered cabler.

They should at least be trained in the setup of the STU. Part of the reason
for this is to ensure that all STUs are setup the same way. Support later on
depends on fixing some baseline at installation.

I think you'll find it's equipment specific training.

Just like any subbie/small business owner.

Yep. And anyone in 2 minds about getting into the great big fucking
digital revolution (mostly hype) should see this company for what it is and
know they look upon their customers the same way as their staff. Join the
workers in their strike by boycotting the pissants! Overpriced reruns - give
it a miss.
