Hello,

This is the first time that I am posting a request, so I am hoping that
someone out there can help me to solve an ongoing problem that I have. I
have a DG-TEC 2000a set top box, and when I have any of the HD channels on,
the sounds tends to drop out on occassions, although the picture remains
excellent. I have gone about and changed quite a number of components,
including trying another amp, I have replaced the aerial, the cable from the
aerial, the optical cable from the box to the amp. When watching when it
drops out the amp goes from digital to analogue. I have taken the box back
to DG-TEC and they can't fault it, then I made them give me another brand
new one, still the same problem.
So this is one frustrated consumer of the digital network, it's alright if I
want to watch SD, however I cannot yet enjoy the comforts of HD picture and
Dolby Digital sound.
Hoping that someone out there has the answer.

I have exactly the same problem, and have had for some time. There is =
at least one other person who posted to this forum last year with the =
same issue too (check Google Groups if you wish to find him).

Unfortunately, the only workaround that I've been able to come up with =
is to use the analogue output of the DG-TEC instead of the optical link =
:-( The sound is identical on the majority of programs because only 2 =
channel sound is being broadcast (and the amp does Dolby PLII extraction =
for the surround signal) so I'm putting up with it for now. Eventually, =
however, once more programs are broadcast in 5.1, I will want to again =
use the optical out on the DG-TEC, and so I expect I will have to ditch =
the DG-TEC and get something to replace it.

I don't believe that everyone with a DG-TEC 2000A has this problem, but =
I've been unable to identify firmware or other differences to nail down =
the problem.

As an aside, I also have a "red-bleed" problem in that large on-screen =
areas of red colour (say, the Channel 7 promo with the big 7) will bleed =
horizontally every so often. This can apparently be fixed with a =
firmware upgrade, but the firmware that fixes it is not available on the =
DG-TEC site (nor was it ever) and I haven't had time to take the unit =
back to DG-TEC for them to fix it.

Please do keep us informed if you find out anything else.

you could ask for a refund and get a different HD box

Does the audio dropouts happen on all HD channels? Or only on one channel?
Does it happen on 5.1 audio or 2.0 audio or both?

Craig.

All HD channels, even the "semi HD" channels 70 & 30.

It happens with both 5.1 and 2.0 audio, regardless of whether I use the =
optical or coax digital out. With analogue audio out it's perfect.

I'm in Melbourne.

It's only very momentary, and it's not classic impulse interference =
(where the picture is usually affected first) - the picture doesn't miss =
a beat at all.

I had the exact same problem. The unit went back to DGTEC and came bak with
the same issues. I tried three days in a row to contact their service dept
and each time they took my number and said they would call me back. They
never did.

In the end I took it back to the retailer who kindly allowed me to exchange
it. I am now the proud owner of a Panasonic. DGTEC have lost me forever
and I would never recommend them.

Thanks for all your help. Looks like I have to get rid of the rubbish and
get a "REAL" set top box and start enjoying proper digital tv.

Are there any suggestions on what type of box to get or should I wait for
the next batch to come out? Any info would help.

Again, thanks for the replies.
