Hey guys and gals.

Just picked up a new TEAC DVB300 Digital set top box ($148 new) from Radio
rentals in Modbury SA.

Well actually got 2 of them cos they were so cheap.

Q. Any tips I need to know with them?

Q. Whats the best firmware/software to run on them? One is @ v1.02 the other
(must be a little newer) is v1.05

They seem to be working perfectly, tho whats the deal with the scart plugs
on the rear? Only seem to work with the original cables....I have a couple
of others here, but I get absolutely no picture with them?

Pulled the original ones aparts, and they are wired arse about (or fairly
different) to a standard scart plug.

Needed a longer one, so resoldered a long one I had to be the same as the
original ones pinouts. (works perfectly now)

Also is there a way to rearange the channels?

ie instead of the channels going (when you use the up button) 7, 9, 10, 2,
SBS

Make them go 2, 7, 9, 10, SBS the way most TV's and video's have them
aranged.

I have removed the dupliate channels so I don't have 5 or so of each....just
would like to get them in numerical order if possible.

Thanks in advance
Stanza

SCARTs have directional connectors (certainly for SVIDEO) where there is a
definite input and a definite output. I am guessing that you got a scart
cable/adapter suitable for a TV rather than a STB/player.
SCARTs follow a standard, there is no way that they would have mixed things
up to confuse us..
Cheers

The latest is 1.06 I think. You can upgrade it with a null modem cable
and the util from their website (http://stb.teac.com.au/)

As someone else mentioned, SCART is directional. The cables you have
are meant for SCART input, not output. I use a SCART adapter plug with
an IN/OUT switch on it.

> Also is there a way to rearange the channels?

No, but I use the jump button which goes through the main channels you
probably want.

How much were they to be too cheap!? :)

I do an occasional channel search to ensure the channels are up to
date.
Also, update the firmware up to 1.06 on both of them.
http://stb.teac.com.au/
They may occasionally crash - just press the power button and wait for
it to go standby.

Standard SCART cable will do. I went to Jaycar and bought their
cheaper
SCART<->SCART cable to connect to my TV. Works a treat.
What sort of cable are you attempting to use? You might have to change
the settings depending on what sort of signal you want to use. I use
RGB..

There is a skip function, but I found it screws up the channel name
when you bring up the Now-Next information.
So I just use the Jump button and the M-View button to view the main
channels (2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 1).

They used to go 2, 7, 9, 10, 28 on analog (here in Sydney at any rate)
because those were their channel designations that are associated with
the frequency they transmitted on. The new numbers are logical channel
numbers located on digital channels (channels 6,8,11,12,34 and 35 in
Sydney), hence the current channel group order. The logical channel
numbers you see on digital TV are what the TV execs wanted their
channel to appear as. The order of channel groups is still based on
frequency, just like your old TV or video... sorry if it's a bit
inconvenient :)
I don't know of a way to reorder them on a STB.

Hope this might be enlightening :)

Great thanks for that info Phil.

Yes it's updated now to version 1.06 so I guess I will just have to fiddle
with it some more for the channels rearangement.

I noticed that some channels have mutiples, so I rearanged the blocked
channels slightly.

Got a bit better order

ie instead of having Ch10 as "1" I blocked "1" and activated "10"

before it would go

10, 2, SBS, 7, 9 as they were (actual channel) 1, 2, 3, 7, 9

now it goes

2, SBS, 7, 9, 10 (actual channel) 2, 3, 7, 9, 10

Only one out of order.....but they are in numerical order <DOH>

Maybe one day they will make a new firmware to corrct this issue?
Heres hoping, as it's a bit confusing for others in the house.....

The channels are issued their numbering according to the Logical Channel
Numbering standard - basically each network is issued a set of numbers [1
digit, 2 digits and 3 digits] - the stations 'main' [SD] Channel will be
between LCN 1 & 9

Jump button doesn't do what you want?
