View Full Version : What you could do on analog but not on digital

Since changing over to digital I have noticed the following things I used to
be able to do on analog but can no longer do with digital.
(1) Order PPVs more than 7 days in advance and via a telephone anywhere in
the world. This is particularly important if you are going to be away
during the early bird period.
(2) Watch a PPV on either unit instead of only on the one it is ordered
from.
(3) Listen to the audio of blocked channels.
(4) Reset the PIN if it is forgotten. Now you have to ring Foxtel.
(5) Swap Smartcards ie one could go to a friend's place and bring one's
Smarcard to watch a channel he did not have.
(6) See what channel you are on by looking at the STU.
(7) Not to be able to change channels if set by the timer unless the timer
event is first cancelled. With digital the box will switch to the correct
channel if autotune is on but then it can be changed which is a nuisance if
using the VCR and someone changes channels on you.
(8) Watch most channels at the time listed in the magazine and not just on
EST.
Incidentally I notice that Channel 9 Adelaide is now digital, which it
wasn't last week.

Yeah, I dunno what to say about that issue, except that I booked WWE last
Monday and out of curiosity I went up to the bedroom to check, and it was
also showing on that box.

I may be wrong, but I thought I saw in the manual somewhere how to change
your PIN. Or is a 'forgotten' password another issue?

Yes that shits me too, although it was the same with the newer analogue
boxes. I had one replaced about 6 months ago, and it was replaced with a box
fairly similar to the new Digital ones with no display.

LOL. I'm in Sydney, but I can imagine how frustrating that would be.

Then you've been lucky. I have two boxes and neither of them shows the
channel. I even had one replaced a few years ago and still not one of
the ones that displays the channel number.

you can ask for the box to be replaced with a display on it. i get the
feeling a lot of people here dont even think to ask for these small things.

How do you get the box replaced with a different one, when there is only one
model?

I'll bet it's a perfect fit too when you take the card out.
