Looking at getting both these films- can someone tell me whether the
R1 disks are the way to go? Do either or both films have more
features on the R1 over the R4 disk or the same?
Thanks :)

I'd get the R1 version. It does come with more features than the local version (for the first movie; the sequel is identical to the R1 version).
More can be found at this link

Personally, I'd go for the R1 version. Not only do you get a few more features (for the first movie, not the 2nd) but also the covers look way better (for some weird reason they seem to insist on putting lots of writing all over the local versions?).

1st one - Region 1
2nd one - Region 4
I bought the R1 of the 1st one. The double pack here in R4. Switched
the disk over. So the R4 disc of the 1st one was in the R1 box, and
sold it - of course I did tell the buyer it wasn't the R4 disc as the
box said, but a R1 disc.
