Hi,

I have been booked in for digital installation (July!!! I'm an existing
subscriber but it's going to take ages to get it) and I have a few
questions.

I have heard that the installation has to be hooked into the phone line to
get the extra benefits of digital, but I want to know the following:

1) will it affect my broadband connection in any way
2) does it tie up the phone line for any duration

Hope somebody out there can help me ;)

Thanks,

Richard

you'd thing fuxtel would be up to date and have a lan connection to their box
so
it could interface with your broadband connection,

or at least a serial port so it could patch into a dialup connection on your
pc

but to think you need to dial into somewhere - maybe a 1-900 number each time
you want to access some feature begs the question how much is your phone
bill going to cost ?

On reflection, i dont think the extra features are worth it - unless fuxtel
can prove
the phone bill doesnt rise by more than $10 per month !

Anyone have phone stats for this fuxtel digit costs on the phone for a month
or
is it still toooo new ?

pp

If I don't use the Main Event or Foxtel Box Office, will the STB still dial
the 1900 number?

Kill the urban myth time

The Return path IS a dial up line - a 14k modem inbuilt into the unit.
The reason they went for PSTN method is that not all subscribers have
broadband internet - Foxtel is available via one way satellite direct from
Foxtel, Austar and Telstra cable, as well as other carriers - they went dial
up retun path as it is common to all platforms.

LAN/Broadband access from living room to internet point is less common than
telephone access in living room.

Return path is NOT mandatory service can be installed without it

Return path is only used to book FBA and PPV and if you wish to participate
in online poll/quizzs - if you do not use those features the box will never
dial out.

Further to the previous post:

The number used is not a 1900, it is an 0198 number which is charged at the
cost of a local call.
