Any hints on what the best DVD player to buy would be in terms of multi region and macrovision disabled ????...............I've got about $500 to spend and was planning to purchase from Strathfield.

Anyone got an ideal Player for this price ? e.g. Sony/XMS/Rank Arena ???

i've got a sansui dv-x2000 from strathfield car radios for $260 and it has everything you can ask for (except karaoke :D) 5.1 analog output, 5.1 digital out coax and fibre optic, its got s-video, component video all the typical dvd/vcd/svcd/mp3/cdrw/cdr etc.

i know its region free off the box, don't know about macrovision yet, haven't really tested it (no need to record to inferior video ;):D), but im sure it would have it disabled.

also got the dm100 5.1 speaker setup from SCR too for 200. Quite decent sound for 200 bux, it will do for my room, only have a small room and i never got to watch anything in 5.1 so i managed to snag a dvd and speaker setup for less than 500.

it might be worth looking at the Digitrex GK705 DVD Player (http://www.apexdigital.com.au/products.htm) which can be found at Aus Pc Market (http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_product_info.php?code=MU-DVDGK705) for a cheap $192.50 delivered!

This thread (http://forums.eyo.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3757) talks about that particular dvd, if i could, i would sell my current dvd and get the digitrex aka apex, but thats just my personal opinion

edit: it seems that the Digitrex is only $165 (http://www.umart.com.au/phtml/products_list.phtml?id=10&id2=20&&bid=3&sid=3367) from the Umart Sydney store

From experience avoid Strathfield at all costs!
The concept of customer service, especially after sale, seems to escape them completely.

Wintel make some reasonably good DVD players that cover the specs you mention and for the money you have. If you are in Melbourne you can check them out in at Radio Parts.
