Hi. Both of my HDD are presently running as PIO mode. I have enabled DMA mode in Hardware Manager and both my HDDs supports DMA access.

I gather from alt.windows2000 that I could uninstall the ide controller in Device Manager and reboot. Win2k will then auto detect and re-install. After that, the HDD should be DMA enabled. However, that applies to the secondary HDD.

I am afraid to do the same on my primary HDD. My worry is - what if it doesn't reboot ?

As always, any input is much apreciated !

Merry Christmas.

hmm.. as for me i just installed the Via 4 in 1 drivers and it seems to work happily in DMA.. although i think it's glitching my CDRW/DVD on the secondary IDE.

if you are worried, win2k also has a "restore to last known good system setup" feature. Not sure how that is done but it exists....

Hi kyjet,

I read your message and I'm also trying to get DMA working with Win2k and my M571 v3.2a.

I have a doubt: When you said "I have enabled DMA mode in Hardware Manager and both my HDDs supports DMA access", how do you do that? Did you use a special software? or you have to set something using the BIOS setup?

FYI I have a Western Digital WD300BB which is now working in PIO mode, but I'd like to have it working in DMA for better performance.

I have set "Use DMA mode if available" using the Device manager of Win2k, but still, the systems reports the usage of PIO mode.

Any clue?
