Howdy.

I was wondering if any DVPNS730 owners could tell me whether it can resize to 4:3 in progressive mode?

I recently bought a Yamaha DVD-S540, and was dismayed to find that, a) it's NTSC progressive picture looked like a better shade of a jittery dog's breakfast (but without interlacing), and b) it wouldn't resize a non-anamorphic DVD to its proper aspect-ratio. In HD mode on my television, there was no way for me to watch a 4:3 DVD in 4:3. So back to the dealer went the Yammy S540, and now I need to find a progressive-scan DVD player that will suit my needs. Any help would be enormously appreciated.

'bac' had the same question, and found a player that did what I think you want.
Have a look in this thread http://forums.eyo.com.au/showthread.php?t=38562

Thanks - I've seen the feature itself on a few players, but never on a PAL and NTSC progressive player. *sigh*

Edit: As lack of luck would have it, I've found exactly what I want in Samsung's 'Screen Fit Viewing' and 'EZ View' features. They have three nice PAL/NTSC progressive-scan models:
DVD-P247A (http://www.samsung.com/au/products/dvdplayer/dvdplayer/dvd_p247a.asp);
DVD-P347 (http://www.samsung.com/au/products/dvdplayer/dvdplayer/dvd_p347.asp); and
DVD-HD937 (http://www.samsung.com/au/products/dvdplayer/dvdplayer/dvd_hd937.asp).

...and I can't find them anywhere. :mad:

While I'd expect the HD937 to be hard to find (HD and DVI), I'd happily walk out of any store with a P247A. If anyone has seen them anywhere, I'd appreciate a holler.

Samsung have the new Hypervision DVD-HD937 on their web site, so I would assume you can order it from retailers like Domaine etc.

But, as it's quite new, and Samsung has been busy filling Special redemption offers on this model, I would expect a wait of 2-4 weeks, but you might get lucky.
(Samsung was giving the DVD-HD937 away, to those who purchased their LCD rptv's during march, by redemption)

The SAMSUNG DVD-P247A player is available online at digitalcentre.com.au (http://www.digitalcenter.com.au/p/2241/samsung-dvd-p247a-player.html) if you're still interested.
